Just. So. Cheesy.
Revisado: 07-20-23
At one point the main character actually compares her twin dying in the womb to a woman losing a family member. I wanted to like this so badly, but it's a cheese factory. Glad I bought it on sale.

If I could give it less than one star, I would.
Revisado: 08-20-22
Two vulgar men making fun of someone's traumatic experience. Whether it actually happened or the person has mental health issues, he doesn't deserve to be treated like this. These two are nothing but bullies.

I tried so hard to like this book.
Revisado: 09-10-21
Supernatural stories are my favorite and the time period is also my fav but this story just did not work. Enough already, we understand what year it took place. I felt like it just kept getting hammered into my head? Did you forget it was 1988? Every chapter is a popular song from them? Did you forget the year? The author will reference several shows, movies, perfume and the list goes on. The author spent too much time trying to keep us guessing if Gretchen really was possessed or if this was just mean girls doing their thing. Don't get me started on the performance. My ears seriously hurt! I will actually keep the performer in mind and NOT listen to anything she performs.

Revisado: 08-08-21
I am a fan of cozy mysteries, this is a great one. I love how the author has taken fairy tales and made them into characters for adults. This is the first book in the Nocturne Falls series I have read. I'm hoping as we meet other characters in other series, they run into one another. It would be kind of like a Cozy Mystery Marvel Universe. We well see!

Historia
In September 1921, four young men and Ada Blackjack, a diminutive 25-year-old Eskimo woman, ventured deep into the Arctic in a secret attempt to colonize desolate Wrangel Island for Great Britain. Two years later, Ada Blackjack emerged as the sole survivor of this ambitious polar expedition. This young, unskilled woman - who had headed to the Arctic in search of money and a husband - conquered the seemingly unconquerable north and survived all alone after her male companions had perished.

Loved this story. I particularly live how the last section of the book is devoted to what happened after the exploration. If it didn't include that, I would have been on the internet for hours.

I recently discovered that cozy mysteries exist and I like them. I love that this spoofs the Great British Baking show and each book in the series is one episode. I've never actually watched TGBBS, but now I need to?

On screen, Danny Trejo the actor is a baddie who has been killed at least a hundred times. He’s been shot, stabbed, hanged, chopped up, squished by an elevator, and once, was even melted into a bloody goo. Off screen, he’s a hero beloved by recovery communities and obsessed fans alike. But the real Danny Trejo is much more complicated than the legend.

Wow! Just Wow!
Revisado: 07-22-21
This man has lived several incredible lives. He's life in Hollywood is the least interesting. I'm not a terribly religious person, but there is no question he is a tool of whatever higher power you believe in to do good in this world. I was looking at the chapters and noticed a 20 min author's note at the end and couldn't imagine the author had 20 minutes worth of interesting content. Wrong!! If you are on the fence about this book read the author's note first. He met Danny in recovery and Danny was his sponsor. Years later, the author had been ignoring Danny's phone calls for months when he was in a bad car accident. Danny just happened to be the first person to stop and lend assistance ("I told you God was going to put you in my path one way or another!!"). Danny's life is full of these moments. He lived through, and even raised some hell before he found his way. Before summer ends, I need a Trejo taco and to watch more of his work than just Spy Kids. Oh! Listener's Note: Danny READS most of his book, he doesn't perform it. He will occasionally break into story telling but it's mostly "read". It really bothered me at first because I felt like I was at work with the kids. Soon, his story just caught me and jumping between reading and storytelling just became authentic Danny Trejo. Stick with it. This will end up being one of the few books I buy a paper copy of and reread.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Required reading for anyone from the Chicagoland area. Lots of historical name drops as well. I had no clue Buffalo Bill tried to steal the World's Fair thunder every chance he got.
