About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Historia
Born on a plantation in Charles City, Virginia, Pheby Delores Brown has lived a relatively sheltered life. Shielded by her mother’s position as the estate’s medicine woman and cherished by the Master’s sister, she is set apart from the others on the plantation, belonging to neither world. She’d been promised freedom on her eighteenth birthday, but instead of the idyllic life she imagined with her true love, Essex Henry, Pheby is forced to leave the only home she has ever known. She unexpectedly finds herself thrust into the bowels of slavery at the infamous Devil’s Half Acre.

What a book!
Revisado: 02-29-24
Wow. This story will stay with me forever. It’s …there are no words to describe how it is to be immersed in the world of the era of slavery. I could see the beauty of the landscape & the characters in my mind. I so wanted to skip some parts of it that were so hard to bear, but I stayed the course and heard it. Not easy to hear, but important to know the history of my country. Thank the author because it is a beautifully written book. Even the devil had his moments of humanity, which made me have to stop and think. But then of course he’d be right back at his demonic behaviors. The herbalism alone is a selling point for Yellow Wife. I loved hearing Pheby’s herbal remedies. Worth reading, 💯!!! So worth reading that I double read it, with a hardback book AND audible version, and I read both. Thank you, Sadeqa Johnson, for writing this book!!

Priscilla brings elegance in telling her story
Revisado: 05-14-23
Raw storytelling, while thoughtful, and mindful of the impact her words have on the lives of the people in her story. I was dumbstruck by her graciousness, to be perfectly honest. Very well constructed book; I appreciate that it’s succinct while being thorough in fleshing out details. Brilliantly made book. And a rarity: I appreciated that it was read by the author. Pricilla’s voice is soft and lovely and adds to the magic of the story of Elvis & her. Thank you Priscilla!!!🌹♥️🌹

Is it too late to hire a narrator?
Revisado: 05-07-23
I still have 2 more hours to go. Why some authors won't hire a narrator is beyond me. The reason for listening to a book is that there is a pleasurable feeling with listening. Not so much when an author won't hire a narrator. I feel like this is kin to that part in this book when your friends told you your armpits stank. I am not saying that about your voice, William. It is just that it would have been such a great listen had you hired an actual narrator to read your book. Maybe it's not too late?
It is an interesting read. I love the book other than the fact that you would not hire a professional narrator. And even if you were a professional narrator, just as if you were a doctor, you'd see another doc, rather than treat yourself.
Please God, tell these authors of Audible to hire professional narrators. I am begging you, God. Are you there God, it's me, Margaret. I just need this one favor, and maybe......

Historia
In Geisha, a Life, Mineko Iwasaki tells her story, from her warm early childhood, to her intense yet privileged upbringing in the Iwasaki okiya (household), to her years as a renowned geisha, and finally, to her decision at the age of 29 to retire and marry, a move that would mirror the demise of geisha culture. Mineko brings to life the beauty and wonder of Gion Kobu, a place that "existed in a world apart, a special realm whose mission and identity depended on preserving the time-honored traditions of the past."

Historia
>When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

Eunsun Kim was born in North Korea, one of the most secretive and oppressive countries in the modern world. As a child, Eunsun loved her country...despite her school field trips to public executions, daily self-criticism sessions, and the increasing gnaw of hunger as the countrywide famine escalated. By the time she was 11 years old, Eunsun's father and grandparents had died of starvation, and Eunsun too was in danger of starving. Finally her mother decided to escape North Korea with Eunsun and her sister.

Very intricate detail of a beautiful life, despite the pain of the Jehovah Witness cult. Very unusual story as I’ve heard many many Jehovah Witness stories. This one stood out mainly because of the thoughtfulness and of the high degree of sensitivity and intelligence of the writer. This person was not cleaning toilets or washing windows.
Extraordinary story. Well worth the time to listen to it. I learned so much.
Obviously the writer is extra smart anyway I loved the story and will go back and listen again.
Beautiful voice telling the story. I was very relieved to see that the writer didn’t try telling the story herself because it always sounds so much better with a professional voice. Hallelujah for that small miracle; it made the listening experience lovely. Thank you!!!

Historia
Helen Brown wasn't a cat person, but her nine-year-old son Sam was. So when Sam heard a woman telling his mum that her cat had just had kittens, Sam pleaded to go and see them. Helen's heart melted as Sam held one of the kittens in his hands with a look of total adoration. In a trice the deal was done - the kitten would be delivered to them when she was big enough to leave her mother. A week later, the family suffered a terrible tragedy. Totally traumatised by it, Helen completely forgot all about the kitten until a little black bundle of fur was delivered to her doorstep.

This is right on par with Merle’s Door. Loved it!!
Revisado: 12-20-20
It took a while to warm to this, and I am so glad I hung in there. The author’s reading had a thick accent which was difficult for me. But at some point I fell in love with it, even though some words I couldn’t understand, and with the story and with Cleo, so I kept rewinding the book so I didn’t have to reach the end.
I had been drawn to this book to hear what a life well lived would have been like, since mine hasn’t gone so well. It was very good to hear that even though tough stuff happened, overall the author’s life was well lived. It was a book about family life, not only a book about a cat named Cleo.
A beautiful story. I’m sure I will be hearing it again. Thank you to the author for telling her story. It is honest, not glossy. That’s what made it so good.
