Historia
On a hot August night, Lt. Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, speed through the streets of Manhattan to the Down and Dirty club, where a joyful, boisterous pre-wedding girls’ night out has turned into a murder scene. One of the brides lies in a pool of blood, garroted in a private room where she was preparing a surprise for her fiancée—two scrimped and saved-for tickets to Hawaii. Despite the dozens of people present, useful witnesses are hard to come by. It all brings back some bad memories for Eve.

Should have been a novella
Revisado: 09-08-24
I fast forwarded through about 75% just to catch up on the very, very little attention paid to Mavis and friends as well as the relationship piece of what used to be a great read. This was boring. No passion left. I miss the beginning of the series and fear it is never coming back.

Historia
Jenna’s parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. It’s the best night of her life. It’s the last night of her life. Minutes later, Jake’s in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but it’s no use. He doesn’t know that someone in the crowd has jabbed her with a needle.

Great narration, meh book
Revisado: 01-26-24
I used to read the beginning of this series over and over. Now I find myself speeding up the audio and even forwarding through parts just to finish. The balance of the series has just gone so heavy toward the police procedural and so light on the character development and life aspects. I like the real angst, drama, stories of friendship, baby showers, relationship struggles and successes, and just more of the stuff that makes the characters seem more human. Dallas needs to be pregnant, Peabody needs a wedding, something needs to make this more exciting. I will eternally hope for the magic to come back, but have been let down by the lack of spark and creativity.

This author is not capable of writing a bad book. I couldn’t stop listening. My heart was all over the place. This installment was beautiful and sad and sweet and everything in between. Best series ever and another huge win for me!

Could have been a short story
Revisado: 06-15-23
So much meaningless detail…cocktail recipes, flower descriptions. Blah. A very boring book if you like things to keep you moving along with a little edge-of-your-seat action. This one is a big miss for me, with the exception of Howl. I loved the dog. Excellent narrator as well.

Historia
It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a celebrity couple who’d conquered both Hollywood and Broadway. And now Eve Dallas has made her entrance—but not as a guest. After raising a toast, Fitzhugh fell to the floor and died, with physical symptoms pointing to cyanide, and the police have crashed the party. From all accounts, he wasn’t the kind of star who made enemies. Everyone loved him—even his ex-wife. And since the champagne cocktail that killed him was originally intended for Eliza, it’s possible she was the real target.

The magic is gone
Revisado: 02-18-23
If I would have started with this installment of the series, I would never read another. I am addicted to Eve and Roark, but much of it is clinging to the early series and the amazing relationship they shared. The characters that enriched the stories were often present and carried the story forward with warmth and richness that made you think of family and friends. No more Dr Louise, Charles Monroe, Mavis, Dennis, and barely a blip from Feeny and the other cast of characters. This book left me empty and disappointed despite the fact that technically it was fine.

Worst Kristin Hannah book

Not her typical.
Mostly fantasy. An imaginary romance. Not my cup of tea.
Skip this if you like a story that is steeped in reality.
Narrator is really mediocre. Hate the smoker voice.

Historia
After I suddenly lose my husband, Patrick, in a senseless shooting, I’m lost in a sea of well-meaning people trying to make the unimaginable seem possible. When a friend of my sister’s connects me to the Wild Widows, I find a group of fellow travelers who understand my new reality in a way no one else in my life ever could. The Wild Widows have one requirement for membership to their group: I must be open to the possibility of a "Chapter Two", which is what they call a second chance at love.

One of her best!
Revisado: 02-20-22
It takes a lot for me to give a five star review. A LOT.. This book took me by surprise when I could not stop listening as I fell in love with the characters. All of the characters. At one point I felt myself getting choked up and couldn’t believe…I mean, maybe for an epic Kristin Hannah novel, but part of a series? It was just that good. What a great start to a new series that will be a pre-purchase in the future!

Historia
The scene in the West Village studio appears to be classic crime-of-passion: two wineglasses by the bed, music playing, and a young sculptor named Ariel Byrd with the back of her head bashed in. But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don’t add up. Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body - but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things?

The end of a series
Revisado: 02-13-21
This series has always had two components...the story of Eve, Roarke and all of their friends and then there was the crime component-the “case” or police procedural. I loved the portion of the story that let us be part of Eve’s world-the personal. I toggled between interest and boredom on the “case” in each story. This installment really signaled the end for me because the author seems to have run out of meat for Eve, Roarke and their friends and colleagues. I miss Charles and Louise and the house parties and one-off conversations over a glass of wine at some dumpy bar with bad food. This entire book, with the exception of some forced, half-hearted meaningful moments (poor Eve saw herself in the face of the victim, Mavis gets a new house, etc.,) was centered around a far-fetched, overly contrived, and completely unbelievable case. I set the audio book to a speed of 1.7 and desperately wanted to fast forward through the case just to get to something meaningful, but alas, there was nothing of substance. This one could easily be skipped and would not be missed. I really hope this author figures out a way to bring interest back to Eve and Roarke, otherwise this series should gracefully find a way to wrap up. Wait for a library copy-I have read and listened to freebies that surpassed this one by a mile.
But the narrator is my favorite!

Violent enough for a man
Revisado: 07-18-20
I only read female authors. My experience has taught me that male authors are too violent and graphic for my taste. Karen Slaughter’s latest novel rivals many male authors. There were far too many stabbings and beatings for my taste. This book goes beyond the violence and adds the subject of child sex trafficking. It was very dark. I gave it three stars because the writing was good and I loved the story line of Lena and Jarod as well as the raw emotions between Will and Sarah. Ms. Slaughter needs to give us more happy, less gory. It is like cooking...balance the flavors please.

Authors life opinions bleed through
Revisado: 08-27-19
I don’t read a book to feel like I am watching a political talk show. I did not enjoy the pro choice rhetoric whatsoever. Left wing ideology abounds In this novel and attempts to instill guilt in white people, Christians, and any people supporting immigration law. This book is excessively graphic and violent and it is unnecessary to the overall reading experience. My favorite book category is romantic suspense and this was way too light on romance and very heavy on the criminal aspects. I desperately need a light-hearted read after this one.
