Historia
This intimate story of Lynyrd Skynyrd tells how a band of lost souls and self-destructive misfits, with uncertain artistic objectives, clawed their way to the top of the rock 'n' roll world. It also offers a greater appreciation for a band whose legacy, in the aftermath of their last plane ride, has since descended into self-caricature.

Too many descriptors
Revisado: 03-05-25
The overall book is good but the author appears to be trying to make the story less "backwoods" by consistently using academic or intellectual words that aren't necessary. You can almost envision him trying to find a way to make this somehow "highbrow", when more simple nouns, adverbs and adjectives would suffice. I have a Masters Degree and felt like I needed a Thesaurus just to get through this book. As my father used to say, "People who use them 50 cent words are just trying to impress others".

Historia
The American supermarket is an everyday miracle. But what does it take to run one? What are the inner workings of product delivery and distribution? Who sets the price? And who suffers for the convenience and efficiency we’ve come to expect? In this rollicking exposé, author Benjamin Lorr pulls back the curtain on this highly secretive industry.

Tries too hard
Revisado: 09-20-24
Two reasons I stopped listening after the first chapter. I liked the idea, but the narrator reads the script way so fast, there is no time to take in what he says. Second, he tries to hard to insert flowery, unnecessary adjectives, it makes you feel like he’s trying to impress you with his “unmatched, superfluous, auditory mastery “.

Historia
In every hospital emergency department there is a room reserved for trauma. It is a place where life and death are separated by the thinnest of margins. A place where some families celebrate the most improbable of victories while others face the most devastating of losses. A place where what matters the most in this life is revealed. Trauma Room Two is just such a place. In this collection of short stories, Dr. Green takes the listener inside the hidden emotional landscape of emergency medicine.

Too much “filler”
Revisado: 07-02-24
I had to stop listening after 15 minutes. It is clear the author is trying too hard to use literary prose to try and put images in the readers heads. The author spends waaaay too much time describing the patients clothes, their appearance and the overall scene by over using adjectives to describe what he sees. It’s so obvious that it is comical. The author should have just gotten into the facts and gotten into the actual cases rather than trying to set the mood for the reader by describing in detail the things unimportant to what I expected to hear. Terrible.

Historia
Shipping out in the 1970s These tales of adventure, told in 10 separate stories, provide a snapshot history of the 1970s from the author’s unique perspective as a merchant seaman traveling around the United States and to ports around the world. Starting in 1969, the first story describes a journey from Seattle to a waterfront resort in Maine, to a vegetable oil factory in New Orleans, and across the Pacific to the red-light district of wartime Saigon. Others describe shoveling coal to power an ore carrier on the Great Lakes, a ship of the same type and on the same run as the ill-fated ...

Revisado: 03-23-24
Too many physical trait details about people the author met or worked with. Who cares how tall everyone is you meet or their age compared to the author? Also serious flaws in the AI virtual reading. It will become obvious to anyone listening. Military time is used often but the AI can’t figure out how to say “ eighteen hundred hours”. Becomes “one-thousand eight hundred “. I quit halfway through.

While McCollough’s voice was audibly older and a bit shaky, he still managed to make this a spellbinding listen. One of the great. The voice and the story.
