But the men who killed her husband are not yet finished.

Yuk
Revisado: 10-25-24
The narrator seemed far too excited throughout the book, and the story itself was like a really poor James Bond novel.

Very sweet and sad at the same time
Revisado: 12-10-23
This story is of both loss and of finding purpose. I teared up several times and smiled too. It was worth reading but I can’t say I’m in any hurry to re-read it or make it an annual classic.

Historia
Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.

Absolutely outstanding!
Revisado: 03-11-23
I expected to enjoy this book because I live historical fiction and real stories stemming from World War II but this far exceeded my expectations. Hedy Lamar was an incredibly sympathetic character and so multifaceted, beyond anything I could have imagined. I was moved to tears more than once, smiled, and so impressed with her determination, wit, and intelligence. Highly recommend this book!

Not a great audio book, at least for me
Revisado: 02-12-23
The middle was the best part. I also felt like the author didn’t do a good job of transitioning from Lena’s early life to later. Perhaps this was because I was listening to the book rather than reading it and the changes would have been more obvious is print.
This book just won’t go down as a favorite.

Historia
Inspired by a true story, the best-selling author of In Country offers a gorgeous, haunting novel about an airline pilot coming to terms with his past, and searching for the people who saved him during World War II. After Marshall Stone's B-17 bomber was shot down in occupied Europe in 1944, people in the French Resistance helped him escape to safety.

Disappointing, but it got better
Revisado: 01-24-22
I did not enjoy this book, even though I’ve ready many WWII books. This wasn’t very well written and it started, seemingly, very disjointed. It took a long time to get to the story. The last third was worth it, I just wish it was better overall.
