Great last book
Revisado: 08-06-18
This was a fantastic finish to a great trilogy. Looking at the print books, you might think there's no way that they could successfully translate to audiobook. The full cast narration and great effects really pull it off though. I still recommend giving both versions a try as they are very different but equally amazing experiences. As for Obsidio in particular, I thought it was a good finish to a really strong series. Pretty much everything you've come to expect from these books plus the grand finale thrown in. I would love to see more from these two authors.

Historia
Glen Runciter runs a lucrative business - deploying his teams of anti-psychics to corporate clients who want privacy and security from psychic spies. But when he and his top team are ambushed by a rival, he is gravely injured and placed in "half-life," a dreamlike state of suspended animation. Soon, though, the surviving members of the team begin experiencing some strange phenomena, such as Runciter's face appearing on coins and the world seeming to move backward in time.

One of my favorites
Revisado: 11-12-17
I love PKD, and this is one of my favorites that he wrote. It's confusing and jarring and weird but comes together in the end in a wonderfully satisfying way. The narration on this one wasn't spectacular for me, I found a few of the voices a little off, but it was definitely a nice solid read.

Atmospheric horror
Revisado: 11-01-17
Carmilla is not an in your face horror book, it's one of those books with a building atmosphere of things being wrong. Of course, reading this in the 21st century, most people already know that Carmilla is a vampire, which takes away from some of the suspense. While Laura and the other characters have this vague feeling of foreboding and knowing something is off, it's painfully obvious to the reader what's going on. Still, despite that it's a really enjoyable book and this cast does an overall excellent job. My biggest qualm with it was that I was not a fan of David Tennant in the beginning section, I can understand why his character would speak that way but the hesitating style of speaking drove me nuts. Fortunately that's only a small bit and then you move on and it gets much better.

Historia
It's her birthday but lonely workaholic Dana Watts is at the office late, drafting a proposal. The very last interruption she expects comes in the form of the most beautiful breasts she has ever seen. These belong to an incredibly hot woman, who is standing in front of her, stripping to music. Laurel Stanley performs strip-o-grams to pay her way through school. She has never encountered a more ungrateful recipient than Dana. The uptight project manager makes it clear that she is furious to be distracted from her work by the "gift".

Great book, but a little long
Revisado: 10-02-17
This book starts out great. There's a lot of romance and even a little plot to hold it all together. But there's a certain point where it just keeps dragging out. She keeps jumping forward in time and giving you snapshots of how their relationship is happily evolving. This could be sweet and satisfying, but instead just feels way too stretched out.

Another wonderful story from Leckie
Revisado: 09-28-17
If you liked Ann Leckie's Ancillary series, odds are that you'll enjoy this as well. If you haven't read her books before, I highly recommend them. Adjoa Andoh does a wonderful job narrating this and bringing unique voices to all of the characters.

On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

Wow, just wow
Revisado: 06-25-17
Think of this as kind of the Canterbury Tales in space. You've got several different characters (all wonderfully voiced by the narrators) who are telling their stories while on a journey. Slowly as each pilgrim tells their tale you see why they are there as well as getting another piece of the overall puzzle. For being a lengthy book, the time seemed to speed by while I listened to this.

Historia
From the internationally acclaimed best-selling author of Code Name Verity comes a stunning new story of pearls, love and murder. Sixteen-year-old Julie Beaufort-Stuart is returning to her family's ancestral home in Perthshire for one last summer. It is not an idyllic return to childhood. Her grandfather's death has forced the sale of the house and estate, and this will be a summer of good-byes. Not least to the McEwen family - Highland travellers who have been part of the landscape for as long as anyone can remember.

Absolutely beautiful
Revisado: 05-20-17
Elizabeth Wein seems to always be able to write books that stick in my head and leave me thinking about them long after I've finished them. This is another one of those books. This is a prequel of sorts to Code Name Verity, though it could easily stand on it's own for anyone who hasn't read the other. The main plot of this book is a mystery, but there's also a lot going on beneath the surface as well.
