Something has been found at the bottom of Earth's ocean. An ancient artifact that can only be described as a giant door, inset into the sea floor. It becomes known as the Vault. A gigantic enigma, buried and forgotten...nineteen thousand feet down. To study the artifact, the galaxy's most powerful corporation, Maas-Dorian, has built a massive, self-contained, secret laboratory base surrounding it, named FATHOM. Great story, brain dead ending.
Revisado: 08-21-23
How about people die for no reason! I mean, people sacrificed themselves for reasons, valid reasons, information transfer. but insufferably, people think they know better than the communal group. People think they know better than those with training in such situations, and one character like that in part 1 is fine, but habit. a character be shown reasons not to be so, and then be so anyway!? Can't bloody stand the ending here.

Worse, a sinister presence has crawled aboard the ship. It’s violent, destructive, and it can reach into your thoughts to make you see and feel what it wants. Anxiety-ridden Alto might be the least-qualified person to face a creature that can hack minds like computers. Only a perilous journey to the ship’s bridge can reunite comms specialist with crew and give them a chance to call for help.

If you like darker scifi, psyonic links, undead, and fleshy creatures... I suspect you will love this.
I was never sure what was real or not, and I loved every little twist and idea in this.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

An unexpected recommendation!
Revisado: 07-02-19
I was thoroughly confused when Audible recommended this to me, thinking the algorithm must have seen all the books titled "Dune" in my library, and seen nothing but a connection with sand.
I'm quite happy to report, that in a number of small ways, this does have parallels to Dune! It is very pleasant look, into a version of early US immigration in New York, with it's different nationalities, and beliefs. Mix in some magic, a splash of maybe romance, a fair few pastries, and an incredibly lovely old Rabbi, and all in all, you have a very pleasant listen.

Too simple, short, and inferior.
Revisado: 01-29-19
The first Warhammer Audiobook was Ciaphas Cain: For the Emperor, which was incredible. story wasn't the deepest, but still interesting, the writing great, the characters interesting, and the presenters all fantastic.
This story in comparison, is painfully shallow, agonizingly short, and as such goes no where. I honestly thought the book had glitched, when it ended one hour in. The performance compared to the other was also far from perfection, particularly the narrator using two vastly different voices for Ciaphas depending on who he was addressing. Overall, I'm extremely annoyed at this short story, for costing even a sixth of a full book, which is usually around 8-14 hours in length.

Historia
Here is a modern novelette in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. Imagine David Cronenberg directing Dr. Strangelove, based on a script by H. P. Lovecraft. Imagine an alternate history in which nuclear bombs are not the ultimate weapon, but instead are merely a stepping stone to eldritch technologies accessible through certain trans-dimensional forces first encountered in 1920s Antarctica, technologies that neither the United States nor the USSR can quite contain.

My Lord! The narration is appaling!
Revisado: 09-25-18
While the story is alright, showing a alternative cold war, with the added problems the existence of Lovecraft's fabled beings would cause, the narration lacks any pacing.
One sentence leads directly into the next, completely unrelated one, and everything is read as if a gun was held to the narrators head. The characters almost talk on top of one another due to the narrators breathless pace.
if this book had been 3 minutes longer, I would not have finished it. Avoid this version like the plague.
