Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Another hit!
Revisado: 03-27-19
Grisham does it again! His characters are well-thought-out. His writing about that time period in Mississippi and the war in the Philippines was spot on and breathtaking! The Secret they will take to their graves wasn't revealed until the last 10 minutes of the book.
The narration was perfect, with the accents and dialects full and rich.

Historia
In 1976, Albert Spaggiari engineered the European crime of the century - a bank heist in Nice accomplished "without guns, without violence, without hate." Spaggiari and his gang of 20 men dug a 25-foot tunnel from the city's sewer system into the bank and lifted about $10 million in gold, jewelry, gems, and cash. Tracked down and captured, Spaggiari escaped from the French police by jumping out a window and onto the back of a motorcycle.

Okay, you got a credit...Ken Follett and Roddy McDowell! Got to have it!!! Well, put that credit back in your pocket, Hoss. The story might have been worth it if Follett had done ALL of the writing. The background information was waaaaaaaaaaay too exacting and waaaaaaaaaay too long. BORING!!!!
I love that Roddy McDowell was narrating. He has such a good command of the English & French languages. With all that said, they must have recorded this book in a London tube loo. I had to keep the volume turned up all the way and then most of the time I could only decipher every other word or so.
This, I'm sad to say was the waste of a monthly credit.

Historia
One hot Monday morning in 1976, Albert Spaggiari engineered the European crime of the century. A bank president in Nice, France found his vault welded shut—from the inside. Spaggiari and his gang of 20 men had dug a 25-foot tunnel from the city's sewer system into the bank, where they spent a weekend cooking meals, drinking wine, and clearing millions of dollars in gold, jewelry, gems, and cash. Here is the breathtakingly compelling story of Spaggiari, his “sewer gang,” and the most daring, outrageous theft of the 20th century.

Historia
America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

Dark with a light at the end of the tunnel....
Revisado: 05-22-08
This novel is a good buy. It is a dark, depressing description of an apocalyptic society...or what is left of one. The narrator's voice fits perfectly and he never rushes the read. Be prepared to have a thesaurus handy, for there are only so many common words to describe ash, the color grey, and destruction. I was truly impressed with the author's use of words.
For all of the fear and death and utter desolation, there is still so much courage and hope in the life the main character is attempting to give his son. However, I suggest listening to this book while sitting in the bright sunshine amongst a crowd of people to remind yourself of what we all stand to lose should "The Bomb" ever go off.

18th Century novel...puh-lease
Revisado: 03-24-08
The only thing that put this bit of prnography in the 18th century was that "her breasts were chafed by her boned stays" and that his "hardening staff pressed against the fabric of his skin tight breeches".
If you took the actual book and subtracted the amount of porn, it would probably have only been 1 hour long. To say I am disappointed is an understatement!!!

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Follett does it again!
Revisado: 02-29-08
Once again, Ken Follet delivers a masterpiece! This is a rather lengthy book, but I never once felt the time passing. The characters were fully realized and it was very pleasing to see they manner in which they grew and interacted.
The narrator was a welcome addition to this audiobook, never once straying in accent or inflection. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone...and in fact, already have.
