An excellent, unforgettable story
Revisado: 07-24-24
This was a thought provoking, epic story, beautifully descriptive…. clings to your soul long after the final word. The characters felt unique, the plot - while perfectly predictable- never felt plodding or dull.

Historia
Former painter and unreformed rake Kit Griffith is forging a new life in Cornwall, choosing freedom over an identity that didn't fit. He knew that leaving his Sisterhood of women artists might mean forfeiting artistic community forever. He didn’t realize he would lose his ability to paint altogether. Luckily, he has other talents. Why not devote himself to selling bicycles and trysting with the holidaymakers? Enter Muriel Pendrake, the feisty New-York-bound botanist who has come to St. Ives to commission Kit for illustrations of British seaweeds.

Joanna Lowell’s writing is like an unexpected bite of icecream after long days of perfectly lovely, but ordinary, meals.
Revisado: 06-29-24
I loved every moment of this book from the authors note to the final word. Charming, dynamic characters, unique historical detail, and imagery that makes you feel like you are sitting on a bike with the wind whipping through your hair beside the MCs, this story is just sublime. It’s my hope that a throng of readers who have only ever read “traditional” romance, fall in love with Joanna’s writing and take a chance on something a little different because this is an achingly beautiful glimpse into how it might have felt to be queer in a more rigid time in history…. And we can all do with a little more empathy.
I can’t imagine anyone not falling in love with Kit and Muriel. 💕

Gideon is quite possibly the best hero ever.
Revisado: 03-26-24
With all the heroes jaded by love, it was refreshing to find one who adored his wife. His relationship with his niece was adorable and his heroine was the perfect mix of vulnerability and determination. While the mystery aspect of this was rather obvious, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story in the slightest.
I could nitpick a little about her taking a little too long to really remove Gideon as a suspect because it would have been obvious to most anyone from very early on, but I get that it was part of her character arc that she felt that her tendency to lean on emotional intelligence was a weakness that couldn’t be trusted.
Truly it was such an enjoyable book. Off to the next in the series.

Three-hundred pounds for one night of protection. It's a job offer, but it's also a ruse. Captain Benjamin Frakes, war hero and de facto head of the Society of Beasts - a club for gentlemen who prefer gentlemen - is tempted to turn it down. But August Weatherby, the sexy, brazen stranger making the offer, has captivated him completely.

Revisado: 02-12-24
There was plenty love here and some truly memorable internal dialogue that wrapped around my heart, but at times there was a little too much of it. I love childhood friends to lovers but I think it might have felt a little more real with more intimate knowledge of one another to show that connection, or maybe a flashback. I felt a bit like I was told that love and affection existed for years without really feeling it. The side characters brought a nice element and I there was some well written pining but the push/pull went on to a point of frustration and got a bit muddled with the mystery towards the end. I thought Edward was well thought out but Gabriel at times fell flat for me with too many blank spaces.
All that said, the writing was very good and I will certainly read more by Annabelle Greene. I suspect she will become a favorite of mine as time goes on because there was so much that ALMOST clicked perfectly in place.

An unobtrusive dose of empathy
Revisado: 12-07-23
I think it’s difficult to take a current hot button topic and work it into a story in a way that doesn’t feel like the author is saying “Look. Read. This is how it feels. Now walk away understanding something that you didn’t before.” This was perfect. I can’t imagine it being done better, in fact.
Most of us will never really understand what it’s like when your body parts and the external packaging that others see doesn’t match the person that you are. When you don’t strictly identify one way or the other consistently, that is a concept that is even harder for most people to really get. After reading, I feel a shade closer to understanding.
Yes. It’s a beautiful love story. Yes, it’s elegantly written with a compelling plot like every book written by KJ Charles. Yes, the narration was exactly as it should have been. But this book was so much more… without feeling like that “more” was being spoon fed one bite at a time.
It’s just a beautiful book. Now go buy it. :)

Revisado: 11-23-23
Narration captured the characters and story beautifully. I’m so sad to see this series end. I loved watching the story unfold and Kims character (especially) grow. Kj Charles style is among my favorites of all the HR authors. Her imagery is vivid and beautiful with just the right word choice every time. She brings all the magic and weaves it into an unforgettable tale.

Historia
All of London is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Wulfric Bedwyn, the reclusive, cold-as-ice Duke of Bewcastle, at the most glittering social event of the season. Some whisper of a tragic love affair. Others say he is so aloof and passionless that not even the greatest beauty could capture his attention. But on this dazzling afternoon, one woman did catch the duke's eye - and she was the only female in the room who wasn't even trying.
