Revisado: 12-13-24
This is a very good and entertaining book. I should not have been surprised becaused of the author.
The story made me laugh many times. I thoroughly enjoyed the negotiations with the dolphins' local. Many great moments in this story.

Historia
In one of the most unsettling "what-if" reversals to American history, the Union Army is overrun at the Battle of Antietam. Left with no alternative, President Lincoln surrenders, and the Confederate States of America becomes an independent nation. It's a tragic twist that will produce dire, far-reaching ramifications. As the divided American nations move into the 20th century, slavery has long since been abolished; but in the summer of 1941, America faces another challenge - an existential challenge.

A different take on the alternative history genre
Revisado: 05-13-24
I enjoyed this book. It is a different story in the alternative history genre. Some have said it is a copy of other alternative history stories but I respectfully disagree.
In this story the USA in not a world power or world's policeman because of the confederate's victory during the Civil War. The main story line shapes up during WW2. I dont want to reveal anymore but its good.
At times the reading sounds like it may be a computer (AI). If it was, please stop! A story this good needs to be read by a professional human actor/story teller.

Historia
Several months after his neighborhood was cloaked in darkness and invaded by the demon-like denizens of a hellish world, life has returned to normal for Miah Gray, a.k.a. Laser Chicken. No longer burdened by PTSD, he is free to enjoy his family and to help pick up the pieces of a pillaged world. At night, he trains with his eight-year-old companion, Bree, a.k.a. Demon Dog, and their neighbors Henry and Sarah, the god-like descendants of Helen of Sparta and the mythological Zeus. All is calm...until new neighbors move in across the street and shatter the peace.

Historia
For Henry, a 17-year-old who feels no fear, the day starts like any other - homeless and alone on the streets of Boston. For Sarah, a 20-year-old college dropout, it’s an early morning serving donuts and coffee to commuters at North Station. Fate brings them together at the scene of a bank robbery, which they foil together, along with a mysterious and wealthy woman named Helen, who offers to reward them for their bravery.

Not what I expected but pretty good
Revisado: 02-20-23
This book was very good. I don't see how this fits in the Infinite timeline but maybe I will see it later.
This story centers on ancient mythical Greek gods (notice little "g") in modern times, combined with the age old story of seeking everlasting life.
Not what I expected from the sci fi series but good nonetheless.
I guess I could say the story was mythical. Not my type of entertainment but I enjoyed it.

Historia
In this brilliant narrative of America's first limited war, Toland lets both the events and the participants speak for themselves, employing scrupulous archival research and interviews as the bases for the drama and accuracy of his writing. In Mortal Combat reveals Mao's prediction of the date and place of MacArthur's Inchon landing, Russia's indifference to the war, Mao's secret leadership of the North Korean military, and the true nature of both sides' treatment and repatriation of POWs.

Revisado: 10-09-22
This is a great book on the Korean War. The author covers all sides of the war and covers details on the POW situation for both sides. This book is an unbias account of the war and I highly recommend it.

Historia
Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank’s remarkable diary has since become a world classic - a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit. In 1942, with Nazis occupying Holland, a 13-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, they and another family lived cloistered in the “Secret Annex” of an old office building.

Good yet sad story because we know how it ends.
Revisado: 10-09-22
I read this book because it was on a banned list. I do not understand why this book is targeted. The holocaust was a horrible time. This teenage girl had hope in a horrible time under horrible conditions.
She was learning about herself in a horrible time. I think all teenagers go through a learning period about themselves even at the best of times.
I wonder if the people who want this book banned read the entire book or did they stop when they got to the part they didn’t like. (And please don’t say we are not banning the book, we just don’t want it in our library), that is the very definition of banning.

These stories are now among my favorites.
Great storyline. Funny and entertaining. I recognize some of the other characters outside of the Exo Hunter book. (Forgot the name(s) of books. But, now I have to catch up on the other books since they all cross over in this story. At the end of book the author has a reference to find crossover books and order to read.
I highly recommend this book. It is basically book 2 of the Exo hunter.

Historia
In September 1969, a fumbling, cranky old church deacon known as Sportcoat shuffles into the courtyard of the Cause Houses housing project in south Brooklyn, pulls a .38 from his pocket, and, in front of everybody, shoots the project's drug dealer at point-blank range. The reasons for this desperate burst of violence and the consequences that spring from it lie at the heart of Deacon King Kong, James McBride's funny, moving novel and his first since his National Book Award-winning The Good Lord Bird.

Once the story got rolling it was very good.
As others have said, the story doesn't get going until halfway then it gets good.
I have read another book by James McBride, "Miracle At Santa Anna" and I like it so
I decide to try this one. Glad I did.
I like how all the characters though different have a commonality. There is a kind of honor among
people in this story.
My favorite quote is, "He is so dumb the room brightens when he leaves"
