Revisado: 07-13-18
This author is new to me, but I'm hungry for more. I feel like I was there with Jo on the streets of NYC. I was taken thousands of meters under the sea. Great story, and the narration was excellent. What else can I say? Get it!

Great story. great suspense, build up, and you figure it all out at the perfect time. Bentley Littles books have been hit or miss with me so far, but this one really made me appreciate Little as an author, not just an average storyteller. Get it, you won't regret it.

Phelps takes another Gold medal!
Revisado: 03-07-17
I just love M. William Phelps. he's a great TV personality and even more so a great author. the subject perpetrator of this book is absolutely despicable and I was left hating her and cheering the DA on!
Do yourself a favor and get this book. if you like a great true crime then this is your story!

Excellent New Horror
Revisado: 02-15-17
I'm always on the look out for a new horror author like Nick Cutter for example. there are way too many horror titles being released that are simply put, crap!
This book however did not disappoint. it is the best new horror title I've read since HEX. it has some similarities to a few other titles released in the past year bit the writing is much better. This book really did remind me of old King yarns like IT and Salem's Lot.
If you are a fan of scary stories with some decent character development and excellent word pictures, give this one a try. it is absolutely worth the credit!

Absolutely Jaw Dropping!
Revisado: 04-18-16
This book sadly is the definitive work surrounding the Adventures of Henry Lee and Otis! I learned the most from this book which is why I GI e it the 4 star overall rating. There isnt much to compare this to, since there aren't many other in-depth looks at this unholy duo. I just wish they had filled in more of the story. I want to see a "Stranger Beside Me" - Level book on this crew!
Nevertheless, it was very good and made you feel as though you were there when the horrendous crimes occurred! Overall, despite the fact that I wish there existed an In -depth novel , this is the best of what's available and its pretty darn good if you ask me. Its unbelievable the depth of depravity when these two men worked together. A must read for any true crime or serial killer buff! Take my word for it!

It was a brutal crime without meaning or motive, baffling the FBI and seven local police departments for many months as they explored every possibility- from IRA assassination to mafia hit. But it was a tenacious Illinois policewoman who would ultimately unmask the Langerts' killer - exposing a terrifying, true-life horror that was totally unexpected...and frighteningly close to home.

Great story, so-so narration & audio quality
Revisado: 03-10-16
I want to start by saying that this was a great true crime story. Anyone who loves the genre like me knows its hard to find a good one after you've read all the biggies. Anyway, this was a very interesting and as always heart wrenching story of a truly perfect american couple who were gunned down by a budding sociopath. I thought the story was well researched and strung together in a way that revealed the right details at the right time. You get to know the dogged law men who live to solve cases like this. Its a five star story, what can I say?
However, I found the audio quality to be really bad. I would highly recommend sampling the audio before making the purchase. I promise you won't regret it but I know some people draw a hard line with this poor quality. Anyway, I give it four stars and I recommend it for any true crime addict!

What a fun read! I can't wait for the next one!
Revisado: 03-03-16
I thoroughly enjoyed the Rookie Privateer! It had so many fun elements and it was original enough to keep me interested the whole time. I am now extremely bummed that I have to wait for audible to release the next book in the series
The only negative I found was that the supporting characters seemed rather flat. Aside from Liam the main character, the others didn't have much substance. In particular, I found it strange that Liam's best friend, partner and first mate/engineer Nick was like a robot. He hardly speaks, has very little opinion and I really hoped to see him grow. Perhaps he will as the other books in the series are released.
All in all I loved it and you will too!

Revisado: 02-19-16
I loved this book! I am a huge true crime fan, and it really felt like this was a true crime novel. I had to remind myself that Vera and Reggie weren't real people! Some of supporting characters were never fully fleshed out, but overall the story was just fascinating!
Excellent narration as usual and one of my favorite new authors! Do yourself a favor if you like mystery, suspense, true crime or just a good old fashioned yarn, you will like this book...maybe love it!

For those who want a realistic review...
Revisado: 02-16-16
I was hesitant to purchase this one because of the bad reviews. I have to guess that some people just didn't finish the book! I first heard of this author when I listened to the Winter People, which was amazing BTW.
This story was so well fleshed out, I felt as if I had lived at the motel in both the late 50's as well as the 80's! I love any story that puts me in the past and let's me experience life through the eyes of its characters. This is one of those kinds of books. It has a great mystery that will keep you guessing until the final chapters.
The mystery was so gripping that I scarcely took a break from listening. Don't let the naysayers convince you otherwise, this is an excellent book. I dare say it is even better than the Winter People because it was more relatable in some ways due to the time periods, and the suspense kept me glued to my headphones!
