Fabulous to here Jane read her life. I was taken in and could understand her truths. Couldn't wait to get to the gym to hear more. Helped me to understand this human. Her acting skills helped the read. I bought the book after my second listen.

Historia
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

I sort of got bored with this. Too drawn out. Don't feel the characters were real. Entertaining, but I've enjoyed others more.

More Please
Revisado: 06-06-19
Love the writing, Love the story, Love Paula. More please. Great read to get a feel for the political environment for Northern Ireland. The reader does not fabricate voices. She just alters her tone a bit so she doesn't sound corny. One of my favs.

Historia
Jean McConville's abduction was one of the most notorious episodes of the vicious conflict known as The Troubles. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the I.R.A. was responsible. But in a climate of fear and paranoia, no one would speak of it. In 2003, five years after an accord brought an uneasy peace to Northern Ireland, a set of human bones was discovered on a beach. McConville's children knew it was their mother when they were told a blue safety pin was attached to the dress--with so many kids, she had always kept it handy for diapers or ripped clothes.

Worth a Listen, But . . .
Revisado: 06-06-19
Was time well spent during my visit to Northern Ireland. Did not grab me with humanity as some of the historically based fiction I've read of that period. Important because it comes from a person's reality, but just somehow missed for me. Good journalism.

New writer for me. I am transfixed. Breathless. Please write another story and put on Audible. Galway is a character. I can feel the weather. The story is tense and grippingly crafted. The characters have flesh. More, more, more.

Breathtaking Twists
Revisado: 08-19-18
Peter Giles is the best to read Connelly. He plays characters with his voice without the theatrics. Connelly is the best. He makes me laugh. He takes me back to my home in Los Angeles. The story transports with smart dialogue, setting as character and legal knowledge.
Made us wish our eight hour drive to the beach was longer.
Wow!

I'm Caught By Paula
Revisado: 04-25-18
Would you consider the audio edition of The Silent Dead (Paula Maguire 3) to be better than the print version?
Have not read the print version, but will search out other titles because of this reading.
What did you like best about this story?
Paula is vulnerable, but good at her job. I get her. Reminds me of Jane Tennison later in her career.
Have you listened to any of Joanne King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. Her reading is real and adds to the story. She does men's voices well.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
After the birth of her baby, she is torn between new feeling of motherhood and need for her job.
Any additional comments?
Look forward to reading more in the series.

Historia
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Connelly Keeps Me on the Treadmill
Revisado: 04-13-18
Would you consider the audio edition of The Lincoln Lawyer to be better than the print version?
Can't say. The audio is wonderful. The voice is real and allows suspension of disbelief.
What other book might you compare The Lincoln Lawyer to and why?
The Bosch series
Which scene was your favorite?
The trial scenes.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Climb into the Lincoln, take a ride, then take a shower.
Any additional comments?
Keeps my attention and keeps me on the treadmill at the gym longer than my music.
