Historia
Today the names of H. P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, August Derleth, and Clark Ashton Smith, all regular contributors to the pulp magazine Weird Tales during the first half of the twentieth century, are recognizable even to casual readers and listeners of the bizarre and fantastic. And yet despite being more popular than them all during the golden era of genre pulp fiction, there is another author whose name and work have fallen into obscurity: Seabury Quinn. Quinn's short stories were featured in well more than half of Weird Tales's original publication run.

Historia
Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin star in these four gems. In "The Christmas Party", Wolfe condescends to uncharacteristic theatrics, which aren't enough to clear him from suspicion of murder. The "Easter Parade" tempts Wolfe to commit larceny for an orchid. "A Fourth of July Picnic" has Wolfe scheduled for to appear as an orator. But his day in the sun is rained out by murder. The last selection, "Murder Is No Joke", is a whodunit in a couturier's salon, where a murderer is dressed to kill and kill again.

A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY SHERLOCK HOLMES COLLECTION
Revisado: 01-03-23
For Sherlock Holmes fans everywhere, THE SHERLOCK HOLMES BOOK: BIG IDEAS SIMPLY EXPLAINED by D.K PUBLISHING & NARRATED BY DOMINIC THORBURN, is comprised of fifteen plus hours of a detailed life of one of the most prolific characters: Mr. Sherlock Holmes. The book starts out with a history of Author Conan Doyle's history and how Holmes and Watson came to be. Chapters include descriptions of Professor Moriarty, Inspector Lestrade, and of course Watson and Holmes. We get a breakdown of Holmes cases as well as timelines. Each character in the story is profiled briefly.
We are introduced to Moriarty and who he was based on, as well as Mrs. Hudson, and the infamous Baker Street Irregulars. We also learn more about the "great hiatus " and how Sherlock Holmes is celebrated all over the world even today.
I have been a Sherlock Holmes fan for many many moons! I have collected his books; I mean Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books. What a great find this audiobook is for a Holmes lover. I call it the biography of Sherlock Holmes and am more than happy to add it to my Holmes collection.

Historia
Victorian London night: A lamplighter discovers the body of a very old man lying dead in an alley. Scotland Yard calls in the eminent physician Dr. Conan to determine the cause of death. The brilliant and opinionated Conan is often consulted by Scotland Yard. But his sometimes unorthodox solutions frequently have him butting heads with incredulous Yard officials. Despite the man's apparent age, Dr. Conan determines that the victim is no older than 30 and died as the result of rapid aging.

EXCELLENT START IN WHAT I HOPE IS A LONG SERIES.
Revisado: 12-20-22
THE UNNAMED BY Stephen L. Brooks and narrated by Alex Lancer is the first in a Victorian paranormal/mystery series. Dr Conan and his newly graduated Dr.Hastings are called in by Scotland Yard when bodies start showing up in the seedier side of London. What's very unsettling is the men are young, but the bodies is grossly aged. What is causing this?
What a good start to what I sincerely hope is a continued series. My only bad opinion to the story is right in the middle its drags just a touch. But fret not, it does pick up pace. Other than that, I really enjoyed the book.

The Complete Tales of Jules de Grandin, presents all 93 published works featuring the supernatural detective. Presented in chronological order over five volumes, this is the definitive collection of an iconic pulp hero. NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST TWO
Revisado: 12-14-22
The Dark Angel: The Complete Tales of Jules de Grandin is the third volume of the Jules de Grandin audio series.
Once again, de Grandin and Dr Trowbridge get involved in more paranormal cases.
I have listened to all three volumes of the series and this one is, in my opinion, sadly lacking in the quality department. I actually found myself skipping stories.

MORE TALES FROM JULES de GRANDIN
Revisado: 11-24-22
THE DEVILS ROSARY BY SEABURY QUINN AND NARRATED BY ANDREW EIDEN is the second in the Jules de Grandin series.
The little French doctor is living in the United States now and, along with his friend Dr.Trowbridge is off on another round of paranormal tales.
I am of two minds on this collection. One thought is the stories were just as good as the first series and two they should have NEVER replaced the narrator. Mr. Eiden has no sense of a French accent. The lack of a French accent took a lot of the characters personality away and made the reading beyond blah! The Grandin MUST have that French accent in order to pull off the character. Without it, Grandin is not what he was in the first set of stories.
I do like the series and have enjoyed Grandin's pompous attitude, but to lose the accent took a lot of the pleasure out of the listening experience

WHAT A LISTEN!!
Revisado: 11-03-22
THE HORROR ON THE LINKS BY SEABURY QUINN AND NARRATED BY PAUL WOODSON was one great listen. Just picture a Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Fox Moulder of the X-files all wrapped up into one character and you have Jules De Grandin!
Grandin gets himself involved in cases that involve monsters, demons, & vampires and most of the time, murder!! Along with his best friend Dr. Trowbridge (i.e.: Watson, Hastings & Dana Scully), Grandin is off running, sometimes literally, tracking down whatever supernatural bad guy comes his way.
I literally took a chance on this 25 hour plus collection. Like many people, I'd never heard of Seagull Quinn, let alone Jules De Grandin! I enjoyed it so much I took another chance and purchased volume 2! Paul Woodson kept the pace with the narration, giving life to Grandin all the other characters in these stories.
The only downside to this book series was the "friend Trowbridge" every ten seconds and treating Trowbridge like an idiot which in this listeners opinion he wasn't that bad. Trowbridge was just a little slower on the uptake than Grandin!
All in all, to me, THE HORROR ON THE LINKS was well worth the price and the listen.

Historia
Meg Langslow's summer is not going swimmingly. In her small Virginia hometown, she's the maid of honor at the nuptials of three loved ones - each of whom has dumped the planning in her hands. One bride is set on including a Native American herbal purification ceremony while another wants live peacocks on the lawn. But when an offensive newcomer, who hints at skeletons in the guests' closets, is found dead under suspicious circumstances, level-headed Meg's to-do list extends from flower arrangements and bridal registries to catching a killer - before the next event is her own funeral.

THE WEDDINGS FROM HELL!
Revisado: 10-23-22
MURDER WITH PEACOCKS BY DONNA ANDREWS AND NARRATED BY BERNADETTE DUNNE is the first of the Meg Langslow series. The book introduces us to Meg Langslow and her entire wacky family. Meg is tasked with being wedding coordinator for not one but three weddings.
Megs' best friend Eileen's is the first wedding and Eileens nowhere to be found and no dress picked out, Wedding number two is her brother Rob's wedding to Samantha, whom no one in the family likes. The third, Megs mom. Meg hates her choice for husband number two as well.
During the entire summer planning of the weddings Meg must find a murderer, tackle dozens of wedding participants, put up with three soon to be brides wacky and impossible tasks. If all of that isn't bad enough, Meg is being targeted along with Megs dad who fancies himself as Sherlock Holmes by the murderer.
Meg also finds herself falling in love with Be Stitched temporary manager, Michael Waterston, who the whole community tells Meg that he's gay.
I fell in love with Meg and her entire wacky family years ago and listen and relisten to her audiobooks. Thanks to Bernadette Dunne, the narration and voice characterization of the whole clan of Langslow,s makes the series a great funny listen, whether it's your first listen or 50th!

Historia
Christmas in Caerphilly is wonderful! Unless you’re a Canadian whose inconsiderate boss is forcing you to spend the holiday there, far from family and friends, with only a slim chance of a white Christmas. Meg already has her hands full, trying to make the season festive for the dozen programmers who are staying with her and Michael while working on a rush project with her brother’s software company. At least it’s an interesting project, since the Canadian company is doing forensic genealogy and DNA analysis. But when the boss is found murdered, there are too many suspects.

DONNA ANDREWS AT HER BEST!
Revisado: 10-16-22
DASHING THROUGH THE SNOWBIRDS BY DONNA ANDREWS AND NARRATED BY BERNADETTE DUNN is the thirty second in the Meg Langslow series.
It's another Christmas in Caerphilly and this year Meg and her wacky eccentric family are stuck with a group of Canadians. These people are clients of Mutant Wizards, Meg's brothers' company. Robs company is working on a DNA program for them and, as per usual, murder is afoot!
Meg is trying to get ready for Christmas, Meg's dad has a surprise present in the field, Meg's mother is playing the genial hostess, Grandpa is slipping GPS trackers into everyone's purses and pockets, and death is about ready to strike!
I found DASHING THROUGH THE SNOWBIRDS one of the better of the Meg Langslow audiobooks. It had the old feeling of the crazy, eccentric family of the early Meg Langslow novels. What a fun listen!
Bernadette Dunn, as always does an excellent job at the narration. She brings all the crazy characters to life.
