Historia
Economics is the mother tongue of public policy. It dominates our decision-making for the future, guides multi-billion-dollar investments, and shapes our responses to climate change, inequality, and other environmental and social challenges that define our times. Pity then, or more like disaster, that its fundamental ideas are centuries out of date yet are still taught in college courses worldwide and still used to address critical issues in government and business alike. That's why it is time, says renegade economist Kate Raworth, to revise our economic thinking for the 21st century. In Doughnut Economics, she sets out seven key ways to fundamentally reframe our understanding of what economics is and does. Along the way, she points out how we can break our addiction to growth; redesign money, finance, and business to be in service to people; and create economies that are regenerative and distributive by design.

Economic romanticizing, not economic thinking

An Important Book
Revisado: 06-05-23
A fascinating and timely look at how economics needs to change in order to foster a sustainable and equitable world. As the author herself states, this book is meant to outline a model whereby specific applications can be pursued, not provide specific solutions to every problem we are currently facing, although examples are regularly explored. The model is compelling, and it offers a way forward that is neither naïve or defeatist. Highly recommended.

Similar to the Sanatorium
Revisado: 10-06-22
This book was a disappointment. I really enjoyed The Sanatorium but I expect a unique plot line in a sequel and I found that this one recycled a lot of the elements from her first book. I found it entertaining enough to listen to all the way through but in hindsight I wish I had skipped it. Her ability to describe scenes is phenomenal but the possibly-haunted-remote-setting-turned-malevolent is a repeat of The Sanatorium and the relationship plot lines were both weak and detracted from the mystery.

Historia
Of the three dominant ideologies of the 20th century - fascism, communism, and liberalism - only the last remains. This has created a peculiar situation in which liberalism's proponents tend to forget that it is an ideology and not the natural end-state of human political evolution. As Patrick Deneen argues in this provocative book, liberalism is built on a foundation of contradictions.

Fantastic, insightful, disturbing, and hopeful
Revisado: 04-04-19
A fascinating look at the ills plaguing modern liberal society. The author cuts to the core of the ideas animating liberalism, and shows how they lead to the problems much modern political discourse aims at solving. This book has very much changed my way of thinking about politics, political philosophy, and political responsibility.

Fun and entertaining
Revisado: 01-30-17
I thought this book was very fun and entertaining. It's fast paced and the main character is a tough cookie, which I always appreciate. It was slightly annoying how Mercy is so against cussing and talks about her belief in God fairly often, but neither of these things really detracted from the story. Overall I think it's a worthwhile read with great entertainment value.

Disappointed
Revisado: 01-04-17
I have to say I loved the first two books in this series but this ending was very disappointing, it basically made it so everything that came before it was irrelevant.
