Great story with a slow build. A story within a story - and you’ll root for the characters in both. I did. I don’t usually listen to WWII stories but I enjoyed it and learned a bit about wartime Britain.

Historia
For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.

Fun story. Great primer on DEI
Revisado: 12-05-23
I really enjoyed this story and loved all the moments where the author put into words and action on the page moments where racism and careless words create situations that for some are probably their daily reality. With her heroine being a diversity consultant in a world where her clients want to whitewash real issues, her character’s responses are wonderfully insightful and instructive while still being very entertaining. Bravo! I’d listen again!

Historia
The truth is neither plain nor simple. Sable, a reluctant thief from the slums, can feel truth when people speak. For years she’s been using that skill to try to break free from the vicious gang boss to whom she's indebted. Escape comes in the form of an odd set of companions: a dwarf running from the past, an actor with a magical, glowing tree, a too-helpful kobold, a playwright with a knack for getting stories out of people, and a man and woman with suspicious, magical powers. But Sable’s freedom is short lived.

A fantasy world vividly rendered with danger and magic in an epic story of good vs evil on the proportions of David and Goliath. Kate Reading breathes life into the pages of the book just as Sable, the main character learns of the strength of her words. But this book isn’t the end of the saga…. So onto the next

Amazing story Wonderful Writing Awesome Narration
Revisado: 12-15-18
Second time I’ve listened to this story. It was as good as the first time through and whet my appetite for the next book that has not yet been released.
A coming of age story in a fantasy landscape. Friendship, intelligence and deep emotional veins run through this story all brought to life by Tim Gerard Reynolds once of my very favorite narrators.

Great story AWESOME Narration
Revisado: 03-31-18
I loved this story with its endearing characters, lions and panthers as human companions and magic steeped in African culture. Wow! Bonnie Turpin did an amazing job bringing the pages to life! I look forward to reading the next installment. In the author’s afterward, she likens the conflict in the story to the landscape of fear and violence African Americans are subjected to. I hope bringing this story to mainstream readers will cross cultural boundaries and build empathy

While I am not the type to love stories about people being eaten alive by former people, this tale kept me enthralled. Well choreographed, great performance and logical conclusion, I liked it start to finish.

After the death of her beloved father, she is forced to maintain a shabby dignity as the unwanted boarder of her tyrannical uncle, fending off marriage to a local mill owner. But just as she is on the cusp of accepting a life of misery, events take a stunning turn when a handsome stranger - the poet and notorious rake Lord Byron - arrives at her house, stricken by what seems to be a curse, and with a cryptic message for Lucy. I liked the austenesque quality of this story cross matched with magic. The narrator at first really grated with her too breathy performance but I preserved and found I could set it aside at last to enjoy the story.

Revisado: 05-05-16
Read well by the author. The reason I gave performance four instead of five is because it sounds like the author is in a well reading the story. Don't let that prevent you from listening. I don't know how much of the martial arts/Taoist/TCM is based in fact, but it made me curious! The narrator who is Randall Lee is a very accomplished practitioner but so lost. He's like a shrink who needs to see a shrink.

Historia
Bono met his wife in high school, Park says. So did Jerry Lee Lewis, Eleanor answers. I’m not kidding, he says. You should be, she says, we’re 16. What about Romeo and Juliet? Shallow, confused, then dead. I love you, Park says. Wherefore art thou, Eleanor answers. I’m not kidding, he says. You should be. Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits - smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love.

Not just a story of first love
Revisado: 08-30-13
What made the experience of listening to Eleanor & Park the most enjoyable?
This is a fantastic story. The dialogue is captivating and the narrators did an amazing job bringing the story to life. I've listened to books where I just wished the voice was different because if I was reading it to myself, it would sound different and deserved to sound different. Not so with this story.
But this is not a simple story. Eleanor lives in a dangerous household with an abusive step father, a powerless mother, a biological father who is also a loser and four younger siblings who are needy and just as trapped as Eleanor. Park, who other reviewers also call a misfit, is a product of a loving, stable home life one block away. He is a typical teenager wondering how he fits in. Yes he's part Asian, and his father flips out when he takes to wearing eyeliner, but his parents support and love him in all the right ways.
A touching, hold your breath story with enchanting prose and dialogue. I loved this audio book.
