Historia
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

an incredible story about the nature of evil
Revisado: 08-29-23
the whole book is bleak but it's bleakness has a point, and that is that evil will never stop or subside and all that needs to happen is for good or decent men to stand by.

a phenomenal fusion of Scifi and Fantasy
Revisado: 11-12-22
quite frankly Wyrms is one of Orson Scott Cards more underrated works, but it deserves so much more. it's a masterful combination of science fiction and fantasy but is honest from the start that it is more sci-fi in the guise of a fantastic universe than the other way around such as Star Wars. while it does drop a few concepts here and there, (we rarely get to see how talking heads of the dead impact the life of the average person, or how biology is so malleable as to allow for entirely new species to arise within 5 generations of selective breeding and the wider impacts of that) it follows a compelling hero's journey through a feminine lense without being either pedantic or dehumanizing.

one point off because it will never be finished
Revisado: 10-13-22
this is one of the better TTRPG podcasts out there the mesh of personas is top tier, the plot rides the line between grimdark and absurdist humor decently even if it slides a bit to the humor side. Its a fun take on the 41st millennium for certain without being subversive or distasteful to the source material. my one gripe is that GW in their search to forever tarnish their name for a quick buck dissuaded them from finishing it so GW could push their middling to poor imitations in WH+.

not scifi
Revisado: 10-13-22
almost the entirety of the story and setting could be better serviced in the fantasies genre Rather than science fiction there are no real technological elements to the story but there is magic wizards and everything how the humans and aliens got to the planet is not even touched upon. with a few minor edits this could be a passable fantasy novel, as it stands the application of the Sci-Fi genre to this work is nearly entirely false advertisement. disregarding these glaring flaws the work is reasonably proficient in what it tries to accomplish. The initial misleading advertisement of genres definitely left a poor taste in my mouth. this is science fiction even less than Star wars is this is science fiction as much as Lord of the rings is.

a good performance but mediocre to downright bad
Revisado: 07-06-22
By 40k standards it's middling to annoying. but one thing that brings it down is that it has no satisfying ending, and relies too much on the mechanicus rather than Orks like what is implied by the cover the byline and just about everything else. one character in the mechanicus is only ever referred to as they, them. This adds very little in terms plot and makes the segments containing said character a confusing slog to listen to, is this "they" referring to the skitarii character or the two characters and the Skitarii as they are engaged in close quarters combat? Who can say on initial listening unless it's clarified later, this gets annoying quickly. the Tech Preist faction doesn't reject their humanity only their flesh, this kind of dehumanizing use of pronouns also goes against that only a servitor would be called they/them but would probably be referred to by the singular it by a competent writer. TLDR not enough Orks or dakka, too much clown-world writing choices.

somehow this novel fixed the movie
Revisado: 05-28-21
I was not a huge fan of the movie this novel is based on I found the characters too moronic to be tasked with something as important as founding a new human colony as the routinely made decisions that would make any NASA astronaut shake their head in utter disappointment. this novelization actually did the near impossible by making these decisions not only line up better but also makes sense with motivations that the characters would normally have other than a sheer lack of forethought. it even somehow managed to fix the gotcha moment at the very end of the movie by altering it in a way that is tasteful. don't buy the DVD or even rent online the movie that this is based on just read this and let your imagination concoct a better cinematic experience then the movie could ever give you.

Historia
One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

A classic and with good reason.
Revisado: 03-04-21
while the length of The Fountainhead is intimidating, it is by this length that you come to at least have the chance to understand her ideal human and her humanistic ideology. A must read for any atheist or those who have atheistic tendencies as it provides a foundation of morality which the movement still so clearly lacks, to be humanistic is far better than to be materialistic, and to pursue you deepest passions is far better than to pursue fleeting desire for fame or recognition. to create, even a small thing is an act of true humanity, regardless of the cost.

Historia
Thousands of years ago, Earth’s terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life - but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity’s great empire fell, and the program’s decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it’s been waiting for them.

Revisado: 05-31-19
this book has everything that anyone interested in the biological sciences or the potential path of humanity, or indeed the potential other sapient children of Earth could wish for, its multi-layered plot delves into potentially very interesting modes of thought and being and does a remarkable job at conveying them to a human audience.

An excellent work, bearly improvible.
Revisado: 04-03-19
The story itself is beautifully written keeping a proper balance of science and fiction. In the beginning its seems hard to emphasize with the plight of a spider, that through the workings of excellent character building changes by the first few chapters. The reader has good vocal range and a pleasent voice, and does supurbly to convey the unique personal quirks and mannerisms of each character. It could only be improved by one or two more readers who match her superb quality.
