wonderful narration

The story brings up a lot of issues about race, culture, and identity. I also deals with a great deal about the publishing industry and authors. The publishing minutia got to be very tedious for this non reader. I loved the narrator and look forward to more of her work as well.

Just Wow!

My mom was raised Southern Baptist in Kentucky. She got out of there when she graduated high school and moved to Colorado with my dad. As the artist and black sheep of nine kids she NEVER understood the racism of her family and community. I am so greatful to her for not raising me in that self deception. I think she recognized from a young age how that religion was an impediment to personal growth and realizing our full humanity. This book puts it all together and is a call for change not to ditch American Christianity but to take a good hard look at it and HOW we might make a change for a better future for all of us! Bravo!

Amazing Performance

I listen to a lot of books and this narration is incredible. It was a really long book so I was afraid it would get old but all the characters really came to life. Of course the writing and the story are superb so the narrator had a great deal to work with. This is an American classic indeed.

This book is fabulous! It's hilarious and entertaining, and informative, too!

I learned a lot about golf (I've only played 5? times). But it goes into depth about how the president* cheats prolifically and obviously. It also goes into how hes bought and developed his courses and how he screws everyone who works for him and everyone he deals with or plays with. He's ruining golf as badly as he's ruining our country!

It is illustrative.

I love this series. You can tell the differences between the characters because the narration is brilliant. The story is full of surprises and suspense. I'm going to listen to all four.

I enjoyed all the research he put into why he thinks the US is so credulous. The history is entertaining. At the end it isn't all doom and gloom either. I would recommend this book but, like everything, take it with a grain of salt.

informative and depressing

I enjoyed the historical setting and the culture of the Friends. The writing was good . The story was interesting but way too sad. The dwelling on the sad events and the constant description of nursing babies made me fast forward sometimes.

I loved this performance. It was easy to assume you were listening to a man's thoughts. Easy to tell the characters apart as well. The story was a bit tedious a couple times and kinda gruesome sometimes. So be careful if you're squeamish. I might listen to it again. I'd recommend it.
