Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

A mixed bag with thought provoking commentary
Revisado: 12-18-24
I can appreciate the effort that is needed to make a retelling. I've been meaning to read this for a long time, and at times, I was underwelmed, but at others, I was throughly impressed. Some parts felt very rushed and looked over.
There were parts that made gasp, giggle, and think (a very dangerous thing, lol). What I admire most about this piece of work is how Elphaba is depicted at her most ambitious and how quickly she falls from that to be pretty pathetic in the end. I don't mean to make it sound so harsh, but as someone who has also tried to make a difference in this world, I can relate to how demoralizing it can be to fail.
This was an enjoyable read, and I am interested in continuing the series!

Grief for the Human Condition
Revisado: 12-13-24
This was haunting to listen to and I found myself grimacing at the parts where I could relate. We as humans are often our most harsh critics. I loved style in which this was written but I did think at times it was hard to keep up with the time line. But with the dark subjects that are talked about it would be hard to recommend. I do think that if you want to read it just do some research and come in prepared to be taken to the darker side of humanity.

Scarlet and Wolf had me a little too giggly haha. The addition of well-written characters and dialogue made me enjoy this book more than the first.

An enjoyable read

I struggled about halfway through this book but the last couple of chapters did make up for it. I didn't really enjoy the main character or his romance but the politics and military aspects I did enjoy.

A slow start but really brought a new twist to R&J
Revisado: 05-24-21
I struggled starting this but about halfway through it really picked up and I couldn't stop listening. I really loved how Chloe Gong wrote Juliet's character, probably my favorite version of her. What I didn't expect was how much I loved the slow burn romance, this sort of second chance romance really made me believed that they did love each other. An amazing retelling!!!!

Historia
A Great Winged One will soon arise and cast his fearsome shadow upon the land. And just as Night slays Day, and Day slays Night, so also shall another Black Witch rise to meet him, her powers vast beyond imagining. So foretells the greatest prophecy of the Gardnerian mages. Carnissa Gardner, the last prophesied Black Witch, drove back the enemy forces and saved her people during the Realm War. Now a new evil is on the horizon, and her granddaughter, Elloren, is believed to be Carnissa's heir—but utterly devoid of power in a society that prizes magical ability above nearly all else.

A little repetitive and hard to get through
Revisado: 04-12-21
I did enjoy the story overall but the main character is just a little too blank if you know what I mean. I kinda wish any other character was the main one since they seem way more thought out and developed.
