Historia
Hector was the best of the best. A government operative who could bring armies to a halt and nations to their knees. But when his own country betrayed him, he dropped off the grid and picked up the first of many bottles. Natalie can’t remember much of her life before her family brought her to the US, but she remembers the cages. And getting taken away to the Project with dozens of other young children to become part of their nightmarish experiments. That’s how she ended up with the ghost of a dead secret agent stuck in her head.

Medium-Well Done

I love Peter Clines, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Things can get quite gory, but it’s a good story with lots of action. I had to suspend my disbelief in several places. While not his best work, that would in my opinion be Paradox Bound, it was an entertaining listen. It would have been better for a young women to have read it, but it is read fairly well.

Best Book with Patterson’s Name in a Long Time
Revisado: 06-20-22
I loved this book. If you don’t like country, this is still a great book. Narration was terrific, plot pretty good, and likable characters, most of the time. Plot became a little stretched at point, but I guess stardom can happen almost overnight. Short chapters, fast read. Only thing I was kind of disappointed in was that to hear the music, you have to buy a separate album.

Historia
There are three ways up to Castle View from the town of Castle Rock: Route 117, Pleasant Road, and the Suicide Stairs. Every day in the summer of 1974, 12-year-old Gwendy Peterson has taken the stairs, which are held by strong (if time-rusted) iron bolts and zigzag up the cliffside. At the top of the stairs, Gwendy catches her breath and listens to the shouts of the kids on the playground. One day a stranger calls to Gwendy: "Hey, girl. Come on over here for a bit. We ought to palaver, you and me."

Would You Want a Button Box

Gwendy, at 12 years old, is given a strange gift by a stranger. It has the power to destroy the world, but it comes with some real benefits. This novella has a great plot, characters, and action. I loved the ending.

Any additional comments?
Great first book in a series. I loved the characters. The only downside I found was it took a lot of thought to get through. It isn't a "light" read; Roth brings up and discusses many societal problems that are not only relevant to the new world she has built, but our own world as well. Since new (made up) words are used without being defined, it is up to the reader, in most cases, to determine what they mean based on their use. Narration was excellent, with a male narrator for the Hero, and a female narrator for the Heroine. Butler and Rankin do an excellent job of conveying the thoughts and emotions of the two characters. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Divergent, but this is an epic story that most readers will want to continue with the second book, when it becomes available. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who thought Divergent was a good read, even though it requires more thought than Divergent.

Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

Great for book club; not so much for individuals
Revisado: 10-02-12
If you could sum up Life of Pi in three words, what would they be?
Adventure, psychological, and teen
Who was your favorite character and why?
Richard Parker, because of the final relationship between him and Pi.
Any additional comments?
The last few pages of this book might turn the rest of the book on its ear. The basic story is pretty good, but it's not a book I would recommend to most of my friends. Because of the ending, this book becomes an outstanding springboard for discussing the relationships between characters. But an individual reader might not pick up on the import of the relationships. Discussing it amongst several people can lead to a different understanding of the story the author was trying to tell.
