You couldn't find a better narrator for this series than Ms. Masters. She commands each and every accent and voice tone for the myriad of characters found in these rousing tales of Speedwell and Stoker. This story isn't as interesting as the ones before it, but Ms. Masters keeps the pace up and we are never confused about who is speaking or the content of their conversations. Her English accent is delicious and easy for American ears to decipher. She does these books proud.

An age-old story of misunderstandings and lack of communication. But Matthews tells a sweet and dramatic story that is heavy on introspection (a technique evident in her other novels too). More dialogue would have lifted this and made it more interesting. When the characters interact, the pages fly. Narration was first-rate.

I like Matthews' books, but this one droned on for too long. The story became tedious and repetitive. Narration was fine, but I was ready for the story to end about 50 pages before it finally did.

Veronica Speedwell is back! This story flies along on the talented wings of Deanna Raybourn's spirited writing and Angele Masters' buoyant narration. It's another quickly paced and quick-witted tale that concerns murder and palace intrigue. From golden palaces to dens of dark desires, we're swept along with Veronica and the hunky and handy Stoker. If you haven't read these books, begin with the first one to fully appreciate them. Each one is delightful.

"Beautiful Bastard" is the book that sold me on this author (actually 2 writers under one pen name). The protagonists in that one were raw and funny and real. I fell for Ben and Chloe in a big way and have been hoping that this author duo would catch that spark again. "Roomies" seemed promising, but again it lacks that wonderful chemistry that I know these authors can produce. The hero is nice and cute. Too nice. Too cute. The heroine is nice and cute. Too nice. Too cute. What's needed is friction. Real, raw, intense friction. These characters don't have it and the plot doesn't give them much to go on. It's like the movie Green Card but without the fireworks and interesting character chemistry. And the narrator? She added to the problem. The sing-song delivery was like nails on a chalkboard and made the heroine seem even more bland and irritating. A big miss on this one. I am still hoping that these authors find the magic that had in the "Beautiful" books.

Charlotte North does an excellent job bringing this book to life. The writing is descriptive and breezy with plenty of giggles and heartwarming moments. At times this is a sweet romance and at other times it is hot, hot, hot! Both main characters are believable and fully realized. It's difficult to tread along the humor path without stepping into silliness. For the most part, Bailey keeps it cute and funny. There are only a few places where the action borders on slapstick. The dialogue is crisp and witty between the main characters and it doesn't take but a chapter or two before you're rooting for them.

This is a wonderful series if you appreciate great story-telling, memorable characters, a cunning wordsmith, and interesting mysteries. Yes, these books have it all. The narrator is excellent, as well. I've enjoyed each one of the books in this series and look forward to more.

Butterfly expert Veronica Speedwell and her roguish and fascinating companion Stoker settle in as equal partners on an estate of a friend. They are hired to repair and catalog a vast array of specimens from butterflies to bison. However, they are pulled into another intrigue when asked to attempt to prove the innocence of a man sentenced to death. Through their investigation, they reveal secrets and scandal. Not everyone is happy with the outcomes. Being in the company of Veronica and Stoker is always great fun and narrator Angele Masters makes it even better with her flawless performance.

Oooo! This adventure of the intrepid Veronica Speedwell and the moody Stoker is the best so far, in my opinion. Maybe it's because it deals with Egyptian artifacts or perhaps it's because we are introduced to the woman who shattered Stoker's heart and we get the story behind it. Once again, Deanna Raybourn struts her stuff with a deliciously rendered tale set in late 1800s England. Angele Masters narrates in her usual superior form, mastering male and female voices and an array of accents. It doesn't get much better than this, listeners! You won't regret a dime you spend to take this trip with Veronica and Stoker.

What a delight! If you love to read about England in the late 1800s and you enjoy interesting and original characters, then this is your cuppa tea, Dear Readers! Deanna Raybourn has a delightful command of the English language and she uses it to perfection with lush (but not overly done) descriptions and witty, insightful dialogue. Angele Masters is one of the best narrators around and she tweaks her vocal chords to distinguish between each character, male and female, so that you're never unsure of who is speaking. This is a tour de force of talent and imagination. Veronica Speedwell and Stoker are two characters you won't soon forget. Thank heavens this is the first among several adventures in this series.
