Someone Please Help the Narrator
Revisado: 01-08-24
I really enjoy this series even though it’s a bit pretentious but the narrator absolutely ruins it for me every time. Please help him out with how to pronounce the following words:
Secreted: definitions - to sneak or hide something away IE a secret NOT something that is discharged). He’s saying it like the second word, not the first. I don’t think the author meant the reporter would discharge the video from her body like a slime lol.
Skeletal: definition- shaped thin like a starved person. He’s saying something crazy like skel-eeee-tul.
Again - he’s just saying it really strangely like he’s fancy and British and I can’t deal bc he’s clearly neither of those things. Just say again, bro.

Historia
Private detective Olivia Welles hasn’t been to her hometown since childhood, not since the night she died. She has no memory of the world before the car crash, or of coming back to life in the morgue. But now, years later, when fellow survivor Bonnie Ray calls from a Kansas jail begging for help, Olivia feels the tug of a dark and unremembered past. Bonnie looks guilty of murdering her young son—the third child to die under suspicious circumstances. Intrigued and seeking closure, Olivia agrees to investigate.

Always The Same With This Author, Why!?
Revisado: 12-26-23
She is SO talented and such an amazing storyteller but it’s like she’s a one tricky pony, always with the same overall bad guy (I won’t say it here but if you’ve read her other books you know exactly what I mean). I keep wondering why I buy these books and each time I do it thinking there is no way she will do it again….and she does.
It’s clear she must be working out some family issues or something but please if that’s the case go to a therapist and give us some new stories where the ending isn’t so darn predictable!

4 Chapters In and NOTHING
Revisado: 08-19-23
Yikes, when I tell you this author digresses into constant thinking from the character I’m not kidding. We are on chapter 4 and so far the character has actually walked out and back into a building. That’s all that’s actually happened. I’d keep listened just for Julia who is my fave narrator and why I bought it but nah, I’m good.

An ancient evil awakens ... Alex Hunter has been found – sullen, alone, leaving a path of destruction as he wanders across America. Only the foolish get in the way of the drifter wandering the streets late at night. Across the world, something has been released by a treasure hunter in a hidden chamber of the Basilica Cisterns in Istanbul. Something hidden there by Emperor Constantine himself, and deemed by him too horrifying and dangerous to ever be set free.

Narrator Cannot Pronounce Words
Revisado: 07-27-23
I took some stars off JUST for the narrator because he drives me nuts every single book. The way he pronounces secreted and a few other words wrong really triggers me lol. I wish they’d have him go back and fix it.

Weird Similarities in Series Storylines
Revisado: 07-08-23
I used to read Kim Harrison books and thing DANG this lady must be into some STUFF. I think the same with this authors books. Like hon, WHAT did your family do to you!? You can tell these books are therapy for some deep rooted family issues because she basically write the same book twice with new characters. Like spoiler alert but it’s the same twist - the person you suspect is bad and then surprise another person the protagonist is related or close to is also bad and then SURPRISE on and on and guess what it’s not a surprise when you just keep doing the same thing. Also, that’s all this book and the first have in common cause it’s all new characters and literally nothing else in common. It’s not a series, why is it labeled as one? Super frustrating bc the first book was SO GOOD. I’m so disappointed.

Historia
Police Chief Aggie Malone is facing her first Christmas as a married woman, and hoping for a relatively uneventful holiday in the quiet Gulf Coast community of Dogleg Island where she, along with her perspicacious border collie Flash, is in charge of keeping the peace. She is still trying to find her place in the big, boisterous Grady family, but unlike Flash - and her own husband, Deputy Sheriff Ryan Grady - Aggie does not see the appeal of the holiday, and the magic of the season is completely lost on her. The old-fashioned Christmas Grady has planned for his bride begins to unravel when Aggie's investigation into a homicide hit-and-run leads to the arrest of her own brother-in-law and exposes a crime syndicate that's responsible for spreading millions in counterfeit bills throughout the southeast.

Police Can’t Pull You Over For No Reason
Revisado: 06-21-23
For some reason this really infuriated me LOL. The amount of stress I’d go through all for them to congratulate me for driving well? I’d legit sue them. I enjoy all of Donna’s books but don’t put things like this in them when they are so far from true and it isn’t a cute trope in the days of police misconduct and brutality imo.

Historia
It starts with the dogs. They won’t stop barking. And then the earth shrugs - 8.9 on the Richter scale. It’s the world’s biggest earthquake since Lisbon in 1755, and it doesn’t hit California or Japan or Mexico, but New Madrid, Missouri, a sleepy town on the Mississippi River. Seismologists had predicted the scope of the disaster - but no one listened. For hundreds of miles around, dams burst, engulfing entire counties in tidal waves of mud and debris. Within minutes, there is nothing but chaos and ruin from St. Louis to Vicksburg, from Kansas City to Louisville.

Good Narrator, Slog of a Story
Revisado: 05-24-23
Good grief I listened for hours waiting for anything to happen and then I realized the author must just really like word vomit and nothing was going to happen. They need to consider an abridged version without all the pointless back story.

Ehhhh
Revisado: 05-21-23
I had a hard time getting into it because the narrator is pretty bad. In particular the portrayal of the character named Dusty is really annoying and sort of “screamy”. However, that’s just the start of the issues for me. I never realized how right wing Bobby A was as a person…which really wouldn’t have been a huge issue for me as I can deal with the gun toting “this man is so impressive women’s panties fall off” a lot of men write their protagonists as. What I couldn’t get past though was the obvious and just totally unrealistic portrayal of Trump. It’s hilarious they have to rewrite that guy to make him seem charismatic, intelligent, and like he wouldn’t fit one second pick economic benefits over people’s safety. Puh-lease bro. Also, the very sickeningly sweet tie in to Twister was gross to me. Get your own story my guy, don’t steal from others who did it better anyways. That’ll be my last B. A. book.

Where is the Love!?
Revisado: 05-20-23
This last love story fell really flat to me. It was all Doyle is closed off to love and like zero romance between him and Riley and then boom we are in love? Like he was more romantic with Annika. I just didn’t and still don’t see it.
As far as the plot of the series as a whole….it seemed like the gods created a problem and then decided that banging humans and making their offspring fight their battle was the solution. I’m just left thinking….why? Really weird but I enjoyed the adventure even if the plot still makes no sense as a whole. Just don’t think to hard on it I guess.

In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting. The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.

Great Narrator, Boring Story
Revisado: 02-04-23
There was just SO MUCH unnecessary commentary and endless backstory. I’m shocked I made it through, frankly. I kept thinking there was just so much more that could have been developed with the story like make one of the agents a nice guy and let that be the love interest and have that play out instead of a 30 second synopsis at the end. Or make the fox actually something of interest which I expected to be the case the entire time. It was such a let down. Was the most boring “thriller” I’ve ever listened to.
