Historia
Charles lives in the testosterone-driven, high-powered, brutal world of investment banking. It is a world dominated by deals, bonuses, bravado, and savagery. Charles is a master of this world. Each day, he shrugs on a metaphorical suit of armour and goes out into a dog-eat-dog world to accumulate power and make money. He's a man who is familiar with casual brutality - his childhood saw to that.

I tried, but I couldn't finish it
Revisado: 01-31-21
I really tried to like it, but I had to stop because it is awful. Didn't finish it.
The story is nothing new. Charles is not Robinson Crusoe - he doesn't like his job or life. So what? Lots of people don't. There was absolutely nothing interesting about Charles at all.
The financial jargon is over simplified. Description of various transactions remedial. And references to things like 'Mining Co' ad "Oil Co' are ridiculous - just give the company a name. The books is fiction - there are no secrets to hide!!
The book is 'hyped' as being from a 'true insider". I'm an 'insider' and besides referencing things like cashflow and balance sheets, it gave no insight at all. Charles could have been a teacher and references made to white boards and lockers, and the story could have been the same. Same, but still boring.
Sorry. I really did try.

It didn’t go anywhere
Revisado: 07-08-20
I really don’t know why it got the good reviews - I completely missed it. I found the story simple and the characters fairly basic. I keep waiting for something to happen, develop, or engage, but it just didn’t happen for me. I persisted and finished, but unfortunately not a book I would recommend. I wish I felt what others did, but no such luck.

I tried, but couldn't get there
Revisado: 07-12-19
I really tried to like it, but it just didn't happen. I gave up after 12 hours. I really didn't find it that interesting. It just couldn't 'hook me'. I found I kept day dreaming and had to keep going back. Unless you are really interested in the characters - and there are A LOT, think twice before you get this one. Sorry, but I really did try.

It was ok. It filled in the time, but I had to force myself to keep going. Nothing really suspenseful. Quite predictable. Music between sections was a bit ridiculous. If there is nothing else, sure, but I would look further next time.

Historia
Why Mummy Drinks is the brilliant novel from Gill Sims, the author of the online sensation Peter and Jane. It is Mummy's 39th birthday. She is staring down the barrel of a future of people asking if she wants to come to their advanced yoga classes and polite book clubs where everyone claims to be tiddly after a glass of Pinot Grigio and says things like 'oooh gosh, are you having another glass?'

Miserable and depressing
Revisado: 01-13-19
If you don't like your life and are looking for a sympathiser, this book is for you. Ellen doesn't like her life and just complains, complains, complains. She never really turns the corner and realises that she has what so many others want. Ellen could have an amazing life if she chose to make the most of what she has. She is just miserable. If anything, it made me appreciate the glass half full and being thankful for the things I have. It wasn't really funny. No real laugh out loud moments. This is just a diary of someone who doesn't like their life, doesn't appreciate the little things, doesn't really do a lot to change things, and expects it all to come to her without any effort. Don't bother.

Historia
A summer at his grandparents' South Dakota ranch is not 11-year-old Cooper Sullivan's idea of a good time. But things are a bit more bearable now that he's discovered the neighbor girl, Lil Chance, and her homemade batting cage. Even horseback riding isn't as awful as Coop thought it would be. Each year, with Coop's annual summer visit, their friendship deepens from innocent games to stolen kisses, but there is one shared experience that will forever haunt them: the terrifying discovery of a hiker's body.

Revisado: 03-16-18
Any additional comments?
It is predictable. It is boring. It never seems to end. It goes on and on and on and on. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen - it didn't. Don't waste your time. I like Nora Roberts, but this was terrible.

Jane stumbles on the rental opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to live in a beautiful ultraminimalist house designed by an enigmatic architect, on condition she abides by a long list of exacting rules. After moving in she discovers that a previous tenant, Emma, met a mysterious death there - and starts to wonder if her own story will be a rerun of the girl before. As twist after twist catches the listener off guard, Emma's past and Jane's present become inexorably entwined in this tense portrayal of psychological obsession.

I was in from the first few sentences. I couldn't put it down. I kept thinking I knew how the story would play out, but I kept being wrong. I highly recommend it, but not for a week long holiday - I finished it in 2 days!!
