Historia
On September 5th, 1934, a young beachcomber made a gruesome discovery on the shores of Cleveland’s Lake Erie: the lower half of a female torso, neatly severed at the waist. The victim, dubbed “The Lady of the Lake,” was only the first of a butcher’s dozen. Over the next four years, twelve more bodies would be scattered across the city. The bodies were dismembered with surgical precision and drained of blood. Some were beheaded while still alive.

Author is an Elliot Ness fanboy
Revisado: 06-18-24
This book is difficult to finish. The author is head-over-heels in love with Elliot Ness. I’ve listened to at least half of the book and there isn’t as much about the Torso Murders as much as there is affectionate prose regarding Elliot Ness.

A product of its time, but well worth a read. The roads were always garbage.

Historia
Thirteen-year-old Boli and his friends are deep in the middle of a game of marbles. An older boy named Mosca has won the prized Devil's Fire marble. His pals are jealous and want to win it away from him. This is Izayoc, the place of tears, a small pueblo in a tiny valley west of Mexico City where nothing much happens. It's a typical hot Sunday morning except that on the way to church, someone discovers the severed head of Enrique Quintanilla propped on the ledge of one of the cement planters in the plaza, and everything changes.

Good story, slow burn though

A great story about loss and life in a violence filled world, but it takes a minute to pick up. Absolutely worth a go.

Historia
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she describes how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset.

So in order to change one’s mindset, one must be born into a family with a healthy mindset.
Revisado: 12-09-19
This book is just an overview of people with positive growth mindsets. The author repeats that people who were born into families with positive mindsets are lucky. This isn’t a book to help readers change their ways of thinking. It’s just a statement of the obvious: if you are lucky enough to be born into a family where growth and positive thinking is encouraged you’ll have a positive life.
