Historia
Conceited, unattainable, and downright delicious, renowned Michelin-starred chef Ambrose Casablancas has one passion in life: food. Women are a distraction, and he doesn’t do those. Especially Cal Litvin, his baby sister’s best friend. Her entire existence is a complication; she’s awkward, eccentric, infuriating… And, much to his chagrin, hotter than his kitchen. Ambrose has a lot on his plate: a new restaurant to open, a multi-million-dollar property deal to execute, and a violent stalker to tame. Then Cal shows up at his doorstep.

So much unresolved teen angst.
Revisado: 04-15-25
Well written, but I can't help but feel like this author is hiding her real talent. Very likable well-drawn characters. Prolonged and repetitive rehashing of teen angst - bullying and parental violence. Way to many long, long, long and frustrating sex scenes.

Such a fun escape!
Revisado: 05-25-24
I have two pet peeves about reviews.
One is the critic who says "That is so unrealistic!" For heaven's sake. This is fiction. Read the newspaper if you want real.
The other is the person who brags "It was so predictable. I figured it out in chapter 2." Well, good for you. But there is a chance you are missing the point. For some of us, it's the journey!
This little book is an exercise in suspending your disbelief for a bit and allowing the author take you somewhere you've never been before. Thank you, Eileen. I'm just a little happier because you are in this world.

Agnes is a wild creature who walks her family’s land with a falcon on her glove and is known throughout the countryside for her unusual gifts as a healer, understanding plants and potions better than she does people. Once she settles with her husband on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, she becomes a fiercely protective mother and a steadfast, centrifugal force in the life of her young husband, whose career on the London stage is taking off when his beloved young son succumbs to sudden fever.

Hypnotic? But not all of us want to be hypnotized.
Revisado: 05-17-24
Lovely almost magical story. It's hard to know what to say about the narrator. Another reviewer called her "Hypnotic" and that is the perfect description - but not all of us want to be hypnotized. I know that everyone seems to love Ell Potter's voice, and she does read beautifully and she never makes a mistake. So maybe it's just me, but all that exquisitely controlled pathos started to drive me nuts. I cranked the speed up to 1.5X and found her more tolerable. I did want to be able to finish this fairytale.

Yet despite the rules she thinks she has to play by, once Emoni starts cooking, her only choice is to let her talent break free.

Don't miss this important book.
Revisado: 01-27-24
Pay no attention to the literary snobs who pan this book for being "pre-teen" or "simplistic". It takes so much more talent to put complex ideas into simple words than it does to say nothing in lofty language. I'm a white female senior citizen and have embarrassingly little exposure to Acevedo's world, which is why I am so very grateful to her for writing, and especially for narrating this story. Her voice absolutely made this experience for me. She reminds of some obvious truths that we often overlook in practice. We should never walk by a teen mother and pass judgment of any kind. We should never group all black people into one giant category. Thank you Elizabeth, for reminding us to be a little more gracious. We need for you to keep writing!

Nice story. Too many fights and chases
Revisado: 04-07-23
I always love Coben's stories and characters, and Weber is such a good narrator. In my opinion this one goes overboard on the fight and chase scenes - which distracted from the story line. Still a good read.

Fun Romance. A bit too much sex for me.
Revisado: 04-07-23
I really liked this story. Loved the characters. Loved the narrator. Just lots and lots of sex - to the point of distraction. I just fast forwarded through lots of it. This is my first Stacey Reynolds book. Are all of her books this way?

During World War II, the Japanese forced 200,000 young Korean women to be sex slaves or "comfort women" for their soldiers. This is one woman’s riveting story of strength, courage, and promises kept. In 1943, the Japanese tear young Ja-hee and her sister from their peaceful family farm to be comfort women for the Imperial Army. Before they leave home, their mother gives them a magnificent antique comb with an ivory inlay of a two-headed dragon, saying it will protect them.

Important Story - Horrible Robotic Narrator
Revisado: 07-08-22
It's important information that the author shares about the forced sex work of the Korean comfort girls (NOT Women - they were just girls.). Quite depressing, despite the inspiring courage of the survivors. The trials went on and on, and on some more. The narrator was so distracting. Jerky robot-like dictation. It was a real chore to stay with her.

Interesting. Not as good as Silent Patient
Revisado: 11-02-21
I eagerly awaited this book, so that might account for some of my disappointment. It was good. Just did not hold a candle to Silent Patient. I became a little weary with the Greek tragedy references, and the characters were not as well fleshed out as they might have been. The twists were a bit heavy-handed and contrived, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. I did appreciate the nods to Theo (from Silent Patient) in the end. All in all, it was worth my time, but not my favorite read of the year.

Great story - some technical issues with recording
Revisado: 07-25-21
It took a bit to get used to the narrator - but hang in there - it's well worth your time. Lovely story that captures the magic and goodness inside each character without glossing over their faults and weaknesses. I agree with other reviews - if you like Delia Owens and Wiley Cash, you will love Sean Dietrich.
Someone at Audible needs to fix the serious glitch that happens about half way through. Suddenly we are treated to a chapter from some other book entirely and then the little wind-up that says "Thank you for listening to Audible..." and once that bit is over we are returned to the story.

Revisado: 06-26-21
If you loved the first three books in the Carly Moore series, this won't disappoint. But unlike the others, this one doesn't wind much at all up in the end. It just stops - rather abruptly. I guess this is meant to entice us to buy the next in the series, but it left me a little frustrated and unsatisfied. Narrator is amazing - as usual.
