Historia
When she was four years old, Shanelle Dawson's mother, Lynette, disappeared. On 8 January 1982, the woman who had been a loving, constant presence vanished without a trace. Four year old's might not be able to articulate questions or understand a lot, but the ache of absence is very real. Year after year that ache persisted. Shanelle's father, Chris Dawson, claimed that his wife just needed to get away. This is what he told Lyn's parents and siblings. This is what he told his daughters. But Lyn never returned home.

Historia
The Forgotten Children was David Hill's heartbreaking account of the abuse that he and other 'orphans of empire' survived at the Fairbridge Farm School in New South Wales. Part memoir, part oral history, the book became a best seller. It was also the catalyst in a subsequent battle for justice. In Reckoning, David recounts stories of the shocking systemic abuse at Fairbridge and how he led the fight against the powerful people and organisations.

This is without a doubt one of the most inspiring books I have ever listened to. Marlion’s story is raw, personal and so real. A man who has managed to come back from the brink and had never given up on his dream and it finally became a reality..

Historia
Glen Walsh and Steven Alward were childhood friends in their tight-knit working-class community in Shortland, New South Wales. Both proud altar boys at the local Catholic church, they went on to attend the city's Catholic boys' highs schools. Both did well: Steven became a journalist; Glen a priest. But when Glen discovered another priest was sexually abusing boys, he reported the offending to police. Just weeks before he was due to give evidence at a key trial against the highest cleric to ever be charged with covering up child abuse, Father Glen Walsh was dead.

It must never happen again
Revisado: 09-11-20
This book is confronting but so necessary in exposing the deep systemic abuse within the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Newcastle.
It is a tragedy that so many have lost their lives and most importantly had their childhood innocence robbed from them.
We as a society must learn from this and commit to do everything we can to ensure it never happens again.
My thoughts and prayers for all those affected.

Historia
Chrissie and Anthony Foster were like any other young family, raising their three daughters in suburban Melbourne with what they hoped were the right values. Chrissie could not have known that the stranger-danger she feared actually lurked in the presbytery attached to the girls' Catholic primary school. Father Kevin O'Donnell, a long-term paedophile, lived and worked there. Two of their young daughters became victims of O'Donnell. And once the truth was revealed, the Fosters began a battle to find out how this could have happened.

A powerful work
Revisado: 06-02-19
This book is a powerful reminder of the terrible disparity that existed for Indigenous Australians and how far the nation has come but also how much more is required. There is the need for all who call Australia home to celebrate the first nation peoples and the unique dimension that they bring to the tapestry of Australian life.
