I kept getting lost
Revisado: 08-21-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Maybe, I really wanted to like this book. The narrator is lovely to listen to. Numerous characters introduced for unclear reasons.
Any additional comments?
The story line was difficult to follow, I finally gave it up. I will probably go back and listen to the authors first book and then maybe try this one again.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Even their garden has a reputation, famous for its feisty apple tree that bears prophetic fruit, and its edible flowers, imbued with special powers.
Generations of Waverleys tended this garden. Their history was in the soil. But so were their futures.
Together again in the house they grew up in, the Waverley sisters realize they must deal with their common legacy - if they are ever to feel at home in Bascom - or with each other.

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits. Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-07-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. I really like Heather Graham books, but this one just went on & on. The characters except for Lucien were uninteresting, shallow & numerous. The most interesting part of the book was Lucien's history.
Has When Darkness Falls turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I will even more Heather Graham books, this one was just a clunker.
What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Nice narration

Listening for the 3rd time!!
Revisado: 01-26-13
Would you listen to A Discovery of Witches again? Why?
I am listening to this book, the series really, for the 3rd time. It is a fairy tale for grown ups. Romance, danger, a witch in denial of her power, a 1500 year old vampire full of secrets, a chateau in France, what's not to love?
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ysabel, Matthew's mother. she is one of the oldest characters in the book. she is both a modern woman and bound by ancient traditions. Fascinating story. Perhaps someday Deborah will think about giving Ysabel her own book to tell her story.
Which scene was your favorite?
Matthew and Diana arriving at Sept Toure.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both, Matthew takes himself very seriously, Diana does not always. When Matthew leaves Diana with his mother and Diana brings forth witch water, her sorrow is palpable, it made me very sad.
Any additional comments?
It is a long book, don't let that deter you, it is completely worth the time to listen.
