OMG. This book is so fresh and amazing. Yes, its a YA book about kids with powers but wow is this refreshing and different than any other book. The African influence is so interesting and the main character is a bad a** chick who just so happens to have a love interest, but it's a side note and the book is NOT about their relationship (imagine that). If you've read the Grisha Trilogy, you will love this.
