Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customers—a lonely yet charming old man—dies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading. But this is no ordinary book… It is the Book of Doors. Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie that any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.

Great looping adventure ! MORE!
Revisado: 09-06-24
I loved this book and very much hope there’s more on the way. Great concept with the magic books and I love how the story lines get resolved. The voice work was amazing. So very enjoyable. I almost never leave reviews but I really hope Mr Brown keeps writing more for us!

Historia
In Ashtown, a rough-and-tumble desert community, the Emperor rules with poisoned claws and an iron fist. He can’t show any sign of weakness, as the neighboring Wiley City has spent lifetimes beating down the people of Ashtown and would love nothing more than its downfall. There’s only one person in the desert the Emperor can fully trust—and her name is Scales. Scales is the best at what she does: keeping everyone and everything in line. As a skilled mechanic—and an even more skilled fighter, when she needs to be—Scales is a respected member of the Emperor’s crew.

An unusual, unexpected, fantastic voice in sci-fi
Revisado: 04-15-24
Loved the story line. Plenty of twists and turns. Brings the problems of inequity we see in our world into another. Feels very Star Trek to see our issues in a completely different setting . So happy to have a sequel to the previous book. My favorite part was to have 2 women of color, 1 who wrote and one who read the story give a rarely heard perspective in sci-fi. We need more women in this genre.

Engaging, suspenseful with just enough conspiracy theory to keep you want to come back and listen for more!
Revisado: 03-31-18
I love a book that marries strong smart female and male characters with challenges rooted in real world science and our current state of affairs. Breakthrough does a great job of tackling this along with giving us a fine adventure along with a whisper of romance under the waves. It shows people doing the right thing when it’s not easy and those doing the wrong thing with the best of intensions because of an unwillingness to see a problem from many angles. I loved the tidy ending along with the “Washington whitewash” cover story and I’m looking forward to the next installments!

Historia
When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Annie will steal your heart!
Revisado: 03-31-17
Annie, a girl with far more wisdom than your average 16 year old, does a heck of a job saving the world. With help from a colorful cast of characters, she reminds us that treating people & aliens with true interest, kindness and a general lack of awe of convention can get you far!
