Historia
Does a great romance make a great marriage? Dara Willcox, up in New York for a weekend, meets Austin Clarke at an art gallery. If love at first sight can happen, it happens to them. These two vivid, ambitious people are on different trajectories—he’s British, working temporarily in New York. She’s set on law school. They don’t care. They will make their lives together happen. At their engagement dinner at Dara’s family home, her mother Lee sets a beautiful table and the family and close friends gather to celebrate.

Like a old pair of slippers
Revisado: 09-13-24
Francis has the extraordinary talent of describing characters and locations. I feel like I have known this family for eons. The human dynamics, absurd but plausible situations and empathy for foibles is soothing in my fast paced world. Any travel writing by Francis will always be appreciated. A real pleasure listening to the audiobook with the accents and personalities represented was a bonus! I only wish it was longer, I wasn’t ready to end my visit. Thank you.

Historia
When Andrew McCarthy's eldest son began to take his first steps into adulthood, McCarthy found himself wishing time would slow down. Looking to create a more meaningful connection with Sam before he fled the nest, as well as recreate his own life-altering journey decades before, McCarthy decided the two of them should set out on a trek like few others: 500 miles across Spain's Camino de Santiago. Over the course of the journey, the pair traversed an unforgiving landscape, having more honest conversations in five weeks than they'd had in the preceding two decades.

The maturing of the relationship as the walk progresses is worgh the listen. Coupled with the relationships formed during the pilgrimage, the rich cast of characters and the history if the Camino - a wonderful read.

Great read

A smart, wicked funny and very well told tale, Terrific characters I quickly felt I knew well. Other fantasy genre stories I’ve read didn’t have the depth, logic and pure fun offered in this book. I really didn’t want the story to end.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

So good
Revisado: 01-07-23
I really didn’t want the story to end. Seeing inside the 50’s worlds of science, university, television and rowing shoukd have been dull but itcwas fascinating. The author interview at the end gives me hope for more with a book about Mad.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.
