Historia
Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) - the only English commoner to become the overall head of state - is one of the great figures of history, but his character was very complex. He was at once courageous and devout, devious and self-serving; as a parliamentarian, he was devoted to his cause; as a soldier, he was ruthless. Cromwell's speeches and writings surpass in quantity those of any other ruler of England before Victoria, and, for those seeking to understand him, he has usually been taken at his word. In this remarkable new work, Ronald Hutton untangles the facts from the fiction.

Historia
In Defenders of the West, the author of Sword and Scimitar follows up with vivid and dramatic profiles of eight extraordinary warriors—some saints, some sinners—who defended the Christian West against Islamic invasions. Discover the real Count Dracula, Spain’s El Cid, England’s Richard Lionheart, and many other historical figures whose true and original claim to fame revolved around their defiant stance against jihadist aggression.

Enjoyed listening to the history.
Revisado: 12-28-23
I learned a lot of good information I had no idea about and the information was coming from a writer who does hate the men he is righting about. The book was very enjoyable and was over too quick. I will be re listening to this one soon.

gender neutral pronouns
Revisado: 06-17-21
The story isn't bad if you can get past the constant virtue signaling from the author. I was able to ignore the gay wrestling, up until the author brought in gender neutral pronouns. Sorry but there are only 2 genders anything else is a lie or straight up child abuse. Nick Podehl is solid as always, I'm saddened he got entangled in this mess.
