Historia
Jess is a senior in college, ambitious but aimless, when she meets Josh. He’s a privileged preppy in chinos, ready to inherit the world. She’s not expecting to inherit anything. A year later, they’re both working at the same investment bank. And when Jess finds herself the sole Black woman on the floor, overlooked and underestimated, Josh shows up for her in surprising—if imperfect—ways. Before long, an unlikely friendship forms, tinged with undeniable chemistry. It gradually, and then suddenly, turns into an electrifying romance that shocks them both.

Story about a dysfunctional relationship
Revisado: 06-21-23
The book is about a dysfunctional relationship but the author fails to convey what the two protagonists see in each other. The author seems to have a ‘moral’ in mind but doesn’t really go there, at times it reads like this love story is a parable about ‘overcoming polarization’.. but really?! It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Historia
Like any enterprising woman, Bea knows what she’s worth and is determined to get all she deserves—it just so happens that what she deserves is to marry rich. Filthy rich. After years of forced instruction by her mother in the art of swindling men, a now-solo Bea wants nothing more than to close and lock the door on their sordid partnership so she can disappear safely into old-money domesticity, sealing the final phase of her escape. When Bea chooses her ultimate target in the fully loaded, thoroughly dull and blue-blooded Collin Case, she’s ready to deploy all of her tricks one last time.

Should have been a podcast
Revisado: 12-06-22
This ‘audiobook’ is a podcast that you listen to while doing other things, not worth a credit. In terms of the content, it engages with a variety of aspects but only on the surface, there is no depth and no new insight provided. Skip this one.

Historia
Despite our best efforts, our modern world leaves so many of us feeling isolated, unworthy, and alone. We’re unrooted from the land, untethered from our lineages, disconnected from our communities, and separated from our deepest sense of self. In Root and Ritual, Becca Piastrelli offers a pathway back to connection and wholeness through rituals, recipes, and ancestral wisdom.

Historia
Liz Rocher is coming home . . . reluctantly. As a Black woman, Liz doesn’t exactly have fond memories of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a predominantly white town. But her best friend is getting married, so she braces herself for a weekend of awkward, passive-aggressive reunions. Liz has grown, though; she can handle whatever awaits her. But on the night of the wedding, somewhere between dancing and dessert, the newlyweds’ daughter, Caroline, disappears—and the only thing left behind is a piece of white fabric covered in blood.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-06-22
I had been looking forward to listening to this book but it has been a disappointment, it oscillates between overly expository and really far-fetched.

Historia
If you find yourself running away from fear, you’re running in the wrong direction. Fear demands that we move toward it, face it, and hear its messages. When we fail to do this, the price is high - chronic anxiety, sleeplessness, damaged relationships, skyrocketing pharmaceutical use, and more.

Many factual mistakes and troubling take on mental health
Revisado: 03-28-21
In Chapter 2 there were already so many factual error and inconsistencies that I had to stop listening. The author seems unwilling or unable to unpack what anxiety is and where GAD it comes from (not ‘the news’ and ‘the fast paced world’!)

Annoying narrator and plain story
Revisado: 03-20-21
I could not get over the narrator’s intonation and strange forced laughs where they do not belong. The protagonists of the story are poorly sketched out and I could not care less. The book was marketed as ‘very moving’ but it all comes down to ‘Trust-fund kid leaves her best friend a furnished appartment’. What a waste of time.
