It is difficult to articulate how soul crushingly bad this book is. I was all in on book one and two left me a bit weary with the direction of the story. Then this abomination fell upon my ears. It's written beautifully but the characters are a mess. If this book was written under duress or a concussion I'd believe it. I felt love and hate for this story and maybe I should be happy with that deep emotional experience. But fml I wish I just loved it.

interesting moments

The overall story is a very fun ghost story kind of ride. Some really interesting points that are reminiscent of old horror and leans towards weird fiction but doesn't really cross that threshold and instead tells a story within a story for a good chunk of the book. The ending was weirdly boring. Overall enjoyed my ride through it. Wouldn't say it's particularly scary unless you have some fear of water. The VA was fantastic.

I got baited in with the line "Event Horizon meets abyss" and got 90% childhood trauma and flashbacks that wouldn't stop repeating. The book is more like if Pennywise was your mom and the location of the horror is irrelevant. If you like horror that's mostly inside the characters head you'll probably dig it but it's not for me who's more into the sci fi/lovecraftian horrors.
