Historia
From the legendary actor and best-selling author: a novel about the making of a star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film...and the humble comic books that inspired it. Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, while also capturing the changes in America and American culture since World War II.

A joy to listen to
Revisado: 06-14-23
A wonderful way to tell this story. I am fascinated by each character, and he suggests a whole world without the tedium of too much explanation. Listening to it read by Hanks is the cherry on top of the sundae.

Historia
Librarian Janet Johnson is puzzled when she is invited - and practically dragged - to her first meeting of the Rejected Writers' Book Club. This quirky group of women would much rather celebrate one another's rejected manuscripts over cups of tea and slices of lemon cake than actually publish a book. But good friends are exactly what Janet needs after moving to the small town of Southlea Bay, Washington.

Sweet
Revisado: 01-09-23
The story stops just short of being saccharin but stays sweet because of it’s slight zaniness.

Historia
At the dawn of the 20th century, a great confidence suffused America. Isaac Cline was one of the era's new men, a scientist who believed he knew all there was to know about the motion of clouds and the behavior of storms. The idea that a hurricane could damage the city of Galveston, Texas, where he was based, was to him preposterous, "an absurd delusion." It was 1900, a year when America felt bigger and stronger than ever before. Nothing in nature could hobble the gleaming city of Galveston, then a magical place that seemed destined to become the New York of the Gulf.

Larson is a wonder - he makes facts come alive! Fascinating, and all the more so for being true.

Historia
It's a headline-making story: the discovery of a previously unknown Rembrandt. Ren Vachey, the iconoclastic art dealer who claims to have uncovered it, wants to make a gift of it to the Seattle Art Museum, but curator Chris Norgren is wary. Vachey is notorious in art circles for perpetrating scandalous shams; not for profit but for the sheer fun of embarrassing the elite and snobbish "experts" of the art establishment. And thanks to the web of strings attached to Vachey's donation (e.g., no scientific testing permitted), even Rembrandt expert Chris is uncertain as to whether or not the painting is authentic.

Interesting story line about art forgery
Revisado: 05-30-21
The story is good, but the narrator should stop trying to pronounce foreign words in their language - he mangles the French and German terribly, and makes them harder to understand in English. If you are speaking Englush, just say the word in English- unless you’re also a native speaker if the other language. So distracting!

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Wonderful story of love and firgiveness made even better by Tom Hanks spot-on performance.
Revisado: 10-20-19
As someone who has moved a million times, I loved this story of a house that is a symbol of life forces. The characters are beautifully drawn, and their relationships are compelling, good and bad. Hanks is superb.
