Historia
Surrounded by barren trees in a snow-covered wilderness with a dim, dusky sky forever overhead, Siberia’s Kolyma Highway is 1200 miles of gravel packed permafrost within driving distance of the Arctic Circle. A narrow path where drivers face such challenging conditions as icy surfaces, limited visibility, and an average temperature of 60 degrees below zero, fatal car accidents are common.

It’s okay
Revisado: 01-13-25
Definitely not a creepy ghost story. I finished it. The narration was fine. I don’t listen to the horror genre to become a better person. I just like to be creeped out. This one missed the mark for me.

Too much “swelling in the pants” for me
Revisado: 08-10-24
Admittedly, dnf - so maybe it is relevant to the plot… but I’m fewer than 10 chapters in and there’s already been 3 mentions of “that familiar swelling in his pants”. I mean, a long haul trucker self-satisfying while driving is horrifying all on its own. Also, there was way too much description for my taste and some jumping around in the timeline that was a little confusing. Just not for me, I guess.

Some art takes on a life of its own. A beautiful house. A loving family. Two kids, a dog, and a tenure-track professorship teaching art at the local university. Dan Rineheart is living the dream. But all dreams must end. When an anonymous painting arrives at the university, Dan is tasked with uncovering the artist. No title. No name. No signature or frame. It’s a disturbing work of grotesque perfection. A work of art...that changes with each viewing. So begins the nightmare. Where painted clocks tick-tock in the dark hours before dawn.

Good story - twisted - but had me hooked
Revisado: 06-08-23
I listened to this on a long drive and was not disappointed. Very entertaining. Some of the characters are less than likable, but that’s their way. Definitely in the paranormal realm. A little, not heavy, but maybe too reliant on some perceived animal abuse. Some brief graphic content regarding a dog and a cat gets “punted” off a porch. I’ll kill switch a book as soon as if it gets to much in the animal abuse. This one tottered but never went over the edge. I felt it had a unique, creepy-esque enough, storyline. I definitely wanted to listen to the end. Narration was good.

Historia
Renowned academic Dr Sparling seeks help with his project on a remote Irish village. Historical researchers Ben and Chloe are thrilled to be chosen—until they arrive. The village is isolated and forgotten. There is no record of its history, its stories. There is no friendliness from the locals, only wary looks and whispers. The villagers lock down their homes at sundown. A nameless fear stalks the streets. Nobody will talk—nobody except one little girl. Her story strikes dread into the hearts of the newcomers. Three times you see him. Each night he comes closer.

Non formulaic - Good Creepy Story
Revisado: 06-08-23
The story has a good starting hook and I appreciate the unique story. I listen to audio books to be entertained. I like a creepy vibe without graphic gore or sex. This book was very near a perfect listen. It had some likable, relatable, real characters. There’s no animal abuse. Narration was very good. I’d listened to more from author and/or narrator.

Pretty darn good
Revisado: 08-22-22
My preferred listen is also more creature/ghost/paranormal horror vs. human on human atrocity. But this was a good, unique story and I listened pretty compulsively. There are a couple unanswered questions I have at the end and some of the characters reactions to various scenarios weren’t what I thought would be ‘normal’. Matt Godfrey is an amazing narrator. Knowing he would be reading played a big part in my decision to give this one a shot. I recommend this story. I appreciate knowing about any animal torture, abuse, or killing in a story. This one had mention of a childhood incident involving a squirrel, but it was not elaborated on and was not terribly disturbing for me.

Where to begin?
Revisado: 08-05-22
I struggle with where to even begin with this review.... so, the narration... it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either. 2 Stars equals "It's okay" which I guess sums it up. The story is not horror. The story is about a haunting, but it isn't scary in the least. The family dynamic is laughable. The strong, overly-intellectual husband, the reserved, go-along wife, the confused older son and the bratty younger one. The conversations they have are ludicrous. The way they talk through the 'situation' is ridiculous, the conclusions they come to are just dumb, and then the decision to just stay and go hiking and kayaking the next day(s) when one of your concerns is there could be an acute, very serious brain related issue (like schizophrenia) developing in your son, is unbelievable. I read some Amazon reviews and kept waiting for it to get better. It did not... it just ended (ridiculously). I'm sorry to the author... but people need at least one warning.

Leash and Other Short Horror Stories is a horror anthology of 13 short, creepy, scary, and sometimes gruesome monster stories. These hair-raising stories will make your mind tingle and your paranoia kick into overdrive. This chilling set of frighteningly strange and weird stories are tales of the unexpected - of deceit and of unspeakable beings that hide in the recesses of the mind and the shadows of dark forests.

More gory than creepy
Revisado: 06-20-22
I love simple creepy stories. While these stories are strange and somewhat interesting, I found them more gory than creepy. In fairness, I did stop halfway through but I just couldn’t take any more random blood and viscera as “the scary part”. Thanks for the effort though, we need more non-hyper sexual horror in audible.

New York City in 1978 is a dirty, dangerous place to live - and die. Joey Peacock knows this as well as anybody - he has spent the last forty years as an adolescent vampire, perfecting the routine he now enjoys: womanizing in punk clubs and discotheques, feeding by night, and sleeping by day with others of his kind in the macabre labyrinth under the city's sidewalks.

Get it and enjoy the ride
Revisado: 08-01-21
I am so happy I picked this up. Unique, well told story with some amazing characters. Narration is PHENOMINAL. Sometimes when I’m listening and characters are talking or doing something or have decided something…. I think ‘people don’t do that, they don’t talk like that, or that was the dumbest thing I think they could have done.’ But this book wasn’t like that. The characters made pretty real choices (albeit somewhat supernatural ones- but within the context). They had real conversations. They said and did things the way I would. It was a really great story. A big thanks to the author for giving it a third try. J-

Historia
An army of monsters walks among us, hidden in plain sight. They're fast. They're strong. They're unrelenting. And they only want one thing: The shitty gas station at the edge of town. Coming as a surprise to absolutely no one, Jack - night-shift clerk and local crazy person - has found himself neck-deep in the middle of yet another world-ending terror. And this time around, nobody can be trusted. Not that tough-as-nails cop who probably knows a lot more than she's letting on. Not the adorkable new employee who might be something far less innocent than she appears.

Back with my friends!
Revisado: 06-20-21
These books are like hanging out with friends. I love the characters.... Jack, Rosa, The Notorious AOB, and of course, Jerry. I'm excited for Book 4, but am afraid that it will be the end of the series. I love the narration. It would not be the same read by anyone else. If you're just coming across this series... just get it. The story is like no other, and is told better than most.
