Important story that needs to be told
Revisado: 12-21-24
This story of unaccompanied minors migrating to the US and all the associated trauma needs to be told. Unfortunately it was a difficult listen due narration. The narrator sounded dissociated and there was too much detail that did not add to the story.

Historia
Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier, the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city, is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Controversy misses the point of this book
Revisado: 06-14-20
I have NO problem with this book not being written by an immigrant. SO What? Jeanine Cummins did her research, she made the human connection that these desperate people are leaving their homes for a very compelling reasons. . They are mostly running for their lives. The criticism is unfounded, this is a great book and tells a story that needs to be told. Cummins hardly made any cultural transgressions as some say, I didn't notice a single one that made any difference. She lent a voice to the voiceless. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the border situation a bit better and especially to those who think they already understand it.

Historia
While evangelicalism dukes it out about who can be church leaders, the rest of the 98 percent of us need to be well equipped to see where we fit in God's household and why that matters. Recovering from Biblical Manhood and Womanhood is a resource to help church leaders improve the culture of their church and disciple men and women in their flock to read, understand, and apply Scripture to their lives in the church. Until both men and women grow in their understanding of their relationship to Scripture, there will continue to be tension between the sexes in the church.

Christians should read this, especially leaders
Revisado: 06-14-20
It took me years of getting the message that women are second class humans from society and the church before starting to understand the underlying assumptions the patriarchal establishment has imposed since the beginning of time. This book sheds light on how this all came about and is a must read for many women who feel alienated from fully engaging in the church. I wish I had read this earlier in my life and I applaud Aimee Byrd for having the courage and smarts to present a very well researched treatise on this subject. Highly recommend this book for people in the church and especially leaders.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Revisado: 03-18-19
This is not a tale of " everything I would have done differently' but appears to be an honest account of the ethics and values of the FBI and particularly James Comey. I feel very differently toward his actions before the 2016 election after listening to his explanation of the events leading up to it. Helps to understand how the DOJ and the FBI work together.

Historia
Life often looks so very different than we hoped or expected. Some events may simply catch us off guard for a season, but others shatter us completely. We feel disappointed and disillusioned at best and overwhelmed and hopeless at worst. We quietly start to wonder about the reality of God’s goodness and why he allows us to suffer and experience grief and loss. Lysa TerKeurst understands this deeply. But after many tears, godly counseling, and prayerful seeking, she's also discovered that our disappointments can be the divine appointments our souls need to radically encounter God.

This book would have been more compelling if more detail of her particular struggles were given . I kept wanting ti say yeah, but to many of her declarations. It was refreshing to voice the existence of doubt and worry. Voice seemed hurried throughout the narration.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Inspiring story of survival and courage
Revisado: 11-18-18
Totally believable if you know anything about any fundamentalist's mind. Amazing story of the common need we all have to belong, to be loved and understood and how sad and hurtful when the family we are born to can not do that. Tara's story is universal in revealing what fortitude it takes to overcome such a tragic childhood. All the common characteristics of abuse and cover ups and chronic structural denial are present in this believable story.
