“Deluge” is a stand-alone backstory of two characters from the Paternus trilogy. In this short story, myths, fables, and legends from around the world are combined to recount the adventures of Fintán mac Bóchra and Myrddin Wyllt in ancient Ireland and tell the “true” tale of the global disaster known as the Great Flood.

The story was lacking the awe of the series Paternus
Revisado: 04-12-25
I was excited to hear more about the backstory of some of the characters I loved from the book but didn’t feel like I knew enough about. Unfortunately, this fell short. It started great with Cetus and the ships, but fell from there.
Why was Mierden Weilk (sp?) on the island waiting for them. I guess we learned why Phan Tan (sp?) isolated himself but the last 15 minutes sounded like a history of mythology lesson.
So much potential lost… I hope this wasn’t just a money grab for the author… 😩

I wasn’t sure what to expect. The first book started with so many characters I didn’t think I could keep up. I’m glad I was listening, because if I had been reading the actual copy, I think I would have given up (like I did with LOTR.)
But holy Peter am I glad I stuck it out. The intertwining of cultures, stories, gods (both good and evil) was truly ingenious. I was enthralled with the research and history that must have gone into the writing of this book. Dyrk Ashton has an imagination and creativity that is hard to compare. I even loved the quick references to Harry Potter and star wars! 😊
It is definitely a book I will return to listen to again because I’m sure I’ll catch so much more the second time through.
Mr Ashton, thank you for the amazing ride! And may the moon wink at you!

This is typical Riordian… which normally I adore. But this book just felt like a …. Filler. It was fun thinking about what happens to Percy and Co when they’re not in an official “quest”, but I was completely disappointed with the quality of the stories. The interviews with characters were pretty weak and the “character profiles” felt like filler.
I don’t usually request a refund but I’m going to request my credit back for this one… just not something I’m going to listen to again.
Sorry Rick.

I hope Matty saw the golden light!
Revisado: 08-13-24
I’ve always loved Matthew Perry. I knew watching Friends, he would be the one I would date… hell I married my own version of him. This book though, wow. I’m not a tabloid junkie or follow the “stars” so I’m never aware of all the Hollywood drama but you could tell there was something going on with Chandler as you watched each season on Friends.
It makes me sad to know that someone with such a good heart was allowed to just fall apart and no one in his “Friends” life was attuned enough to say “Matty- wtf? Let’s get your sh1t together. We’re here for you, let’s do this thing, we love you!”
I think the most chilling thing about the book is how many times he talks to God and about God and says he should be dead. He says God put him here for a reason… maybe it was to write this book and get it published “just in time”. I’m glad to feel like I know the real Matty Perry a little better, and I’m sure when he saw St. Peter, there was a golden light because there were lots of scars to show all he had been fighting for. And Matty, you were enough. We love you!
This is not an easy read. It’s sad, depressing and could be triggering for some who might be recovering. However, for those of us who have friends and family who have dealt with this “big terrible thing” it’s a great insight into what’s going on in their head. Which is often too painful or difficult for our loved ones to vocalize.
That being said, if you’re interested in how an addict approaches their daily life and how it can unravel so easily, this is definitely an interesting read.
Once again, enjoy Heaven Matty. You already did your time in hell!

Great take on Vernes’ novels.
Revisado: 07-04-24
While starting with tragedy, as most great stories do, Ana and her classmates continue to act like both freshman and heroes. I loved the inclusion of the character of Esther and making her a vital part of the story. I hope it helps young people understand different is just different and understanding each other is the key the true friendship.
The different “houses” at HP were a nice touch as well; showcasing the talents and strengths of each person.
After just listening to the Nico deAngelo book, my expectations weren’t high. But Daughter of the Deep, knocked it out of the park. Perfect for middle schoolers and up. Maybe even 4th & 5th graders.
Solid story!

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Even better than Fourth Wing
Revisado: 04-25-24
This series is a bit different from my usual YA series (Rowling, Riordian, MMeyer, etc.). But i’m so glad I picked up this series. Yarros’ story me captivated the entire 28 hours. Rebecca Soler did a fantastic job of portraying the characters and telling the story from Violet’s point of view. The intensity in her voice during some of the battle scenes made me feel like I was there. There were times that I laughed out loud and times that I wanted to cry. Not to mention times that I said “holy F#$&” right along with Violet.
Rebecca’s ability to distinguish between the voices of Tairn, Xyden, Sgaeyl, and Andarna, and the thoughts in Violet‘s head, was just incredible. Teddy Hamilton did a great job performing Xaden’s chapters. After the end of Fourth Wing, I found myself hoping for a little more clues into Xaden and disappointed that Teddy didn’t have more voice time along with Rebecca.
I can’t believe there are going to be 5 books! Waiting for #3 will be painful enough. So worried about Xaden….

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Love the book. Disappointed with the production
Revisado: 12-18-21
I am a huge fan of the Dune series. I have listened on Audible to all prequel book and enjoyed them greatly - both the writing and the narration.
The narrator in this book was good, but not as good as the narrator of the previous books. Also, I found the mixing of actor readers to be terribly inconsistent and very distracting.
Poor decision by the producers. Sad, as the previous narrator read eloquently and in the voice of the characters leaving one’s own imagination to complete the mental image of the wonderfully written characters.
Again, I love the book. The production simply got in the way.

Better than expected
Revisado: 03-16-21
This book picks up after the first with several years having past. I was unsure how this would affect characters but was impressed by the authors handling. I stayed interested throughout the entire book and only once or twice thought too much time had been spent in any one place.
I truly enjoyed the story. I look forward to downloading and listening to the next book.
High praise for the narrator. He gives the story character in his voices, his unhurried approach and passion.
I cannot say enough good about my time spent with this book.

Frank Herbert's Dune is one of the grandest epics in the annals of imaginative literature. Now Herbert's son, Brian, working with Kevin J. Anderson and using Frank Herbert's own notes, reveals a pivotal epoch in the history of the Dune universe: the Butlerian Jihad, the war that was fought ten thousand years before the events of Dune - the war in which humans wrested their freedom from "thinking machines."

Enjoyed this a great deal
Revisado: 02-22-21
I came to the book Dune as a kid. I read this once before, many years ago but did. It have the time to re-read it due to work, family, etc.
This prequel does a very good job of laying a complicated foundation for the Dune series. It does what good science fiction does, it combines faraway places, characters and ideas with politics, science, religion and more and in doing so, poses great questions to consider.
The characters in this book are many and diverse. By the time the book is done, you feel you know them all. You empathize with the good and despise the bad looking forward to finding out what they will do next and what in what situations they will find themselves.
I look forward to purchasing and listening to the next book (tomorrow!)
Very well read, I hope the reader continues with this series.
