Historia
Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; all the members of the second expedition committed suicide; the third expedition died in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another; the members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within months of their return, all had died of aggressive cancer.

Thought provoking
Revisado: 02-24-25
The story itself is interesting. I haven't watched the movie, yet. Perhaps it will translate better via motion picture. The narrator in my opinion is monotone which I'm sure is the direction given to her BUT my goodness it took forever to get through this book.

Revisado: 02-08-25
I'm becoming a fan of Scalzi. This was a good start to his collections. I like the pace, nothing can be brand new or unique these days imo but things can be refreshing still and this book does so. plus Will Wheaton does a great job too!

Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Kept me listening
Revisado: 06-10-22
Overall nothing spectacular characters were okay again nothing special but overall the style of writing the style of narrating I think it really comes from the performance sometimes more so than the actual story itself Luke Daniels definitely brought some energy. Nathan Hystaf brought his usual male protagonist with a strong supporting female as the inevitable love interest.

Can be a conclusion
Revisado: 05-18-22
in my opinion they should leave it at that. I know there are ways to reopen this series but I just doesn't have that I want to know more feeling to it. You have somewhat investment into the characters but nothing substantial. The science and story behind it is rather cliche. at home mad science ruler is just getting quite old.
