On the edge of the galaxy, a diplomatic mission to an alien planet takes a turn when the Legionnaires, an elite special fighting force, find themselves ambushed and stranded behind enemy lines. They struggle to survive under siege, waiting on a rescue that might never come. In the seedy starport of Ackabar, a young girl searches the crime-ridden gutters to avenge her father's murder; not far away, a double-dealing legionniare-turned-smuggler hunts an epic payday; and somewhere along the outer galaxy, a mysterious bounty hunter lies in wait.

The Best of the Entire Series
Revisado: 06-23-24
I have listened to the entire series of Galaxy’s Edge books, and this one will always be my favorite. The narration is awesome. The story is gritty and full of action but also dotted with moments that are perfectly poignant for a group of soldiers. Once you’ve listened to all of the books, it is particularly interesting to circle back and begin at the beginning, to remind yourself where the now familiar characters come from. Now n to the next, again.

Historia
It all ends here. Every decision, battle, triumph, and heartache has led the galaxy to this moment. The Republic is spun wildly into sudden war as Gomarii slavers, in overwhelming numbers, strike on behalf of their Savage allies. The battle is fiercest on a newly rediscovered world: Earth. But galactic war is only the symptom of an older, deeper, and far more dangerous conflict. Now, Keel and Ravi must work frantically to assemble the warriors needed to withstand an ancient threat, and Prisma must wrestle to control her own inner darkness.

Huh? *SPOILER ALERT*
Revisado: 04-17-23
I’m pretty sure I listened to every single book in this series, some of them more than once. But Thomas Roman evolving into the Golden King took me totally by surprise. When we last left Roman, he was a good guy. Yes, he had put his brain in a synthetic body (for lack of better terminology) but becoming Savage? Bringing the Savages back to take over the universe? I’m sorry, but that came completely out of left field! When was he seduced to the “dark side”. That whole plot left me confused and wanting for explanation. I feel cheated. And I think it’s time for this series to end.
On a positive note, my favorite characters we’re there and the action sequences were great. R C Bray did a fabulous job. At least it was a rushed and confused end that was easy to listen to.

Revisado: 01-26-23
We revisit a lot of characters in this one, and little by little we learn more about them and more of their back story. As we end the book, we have a better idea of who they were, who they are, and it’s clear that we’re preparing for the battle to end all battles. Starting the next book…

Kel Turner is one of the youngest legionnaires ever to be selected to its ranks. Great story. Terrible narration.
Revisado: 08-13-21
This was an overall good story — an in depth view in the life of a Dark Ops Legionnaire— with exactly the wrong voice. His speech is sotto voce, like he’s talking to someone nearby without wanting anyone else to hear. He even deepens his voice, like he’s telling a secret. The battle scenes were performed in the same voice which made them totally unexciting. This is not a narrator I will listen to again.

Historia
The Coalition is reeling. New Vega and its other worlds have fallen beneath the boot of the newly allied Savage marines, and the death count continues to rise at a staggering rate. One thing is clear: The war to come will be a fight for the very survival of the species. For both sides in this conflict, now is the time to become what fate, and victory, demand. The Savages - post-human monsters who believe themselves to be gods - are intent on remaking civilization in their own violent and pathological image. Yet their alliance is tenuous.

Too much Gods; Too little Legionnaires
Revisado: 04-24-20
I was excited to listen to this book. Finally! The history of the formation of the Legion! How it all began!
Then I started listening. Okay, interesting and creative storyline for this particular group of Savages. I get it. Check. Ready to move on.
But there was more... and more... and even more about the savages. Good grief will it ever end??!! I know all this already. Like a movie you stick with because you hope it will get better but it never does!! Enough already!!
If the authors had spent half as much energy developing the Legionnaires section as they did on this ONE savage character, it might have been a decent book. But instead, the Tyrus Rex character is shallow. Not NEARLY enough time was spent on developing why he is the snarling dog that this book depicts him to be, and he’s too snarly by half.
Disappointing.

Lots of twists and turns!
Revisado: 11-03-19
Mickey Haller does it again but not without great sacrifices that, although not specifically called out by name, demonstrates the hubris of trying to outsmart an opponent with unchecked power and the dire consequences when you’re wrong. That was the only part of the story that didn’t ring true for me. Haller didn’t take responsibility for his actions that caused a man’s death, and he should’ve. It is unbelievable that he would be so naive. Get past that, and it’s still a great story!

Not a favorite
Revisado: 02-05-19
I love the Longmire series. Even so, I’m disappointed in this book, not so much in the story — well ok, in the story too.
First, as others have commented, our favorite supporting characters are absent. Whether you like that or not, it has an effect on the story in that it means there is much less dialog. The result is that by the time you get near the last part of the book, it’s like listening to the play-by-play at a football game. It’s tiresome in the extreme. Add that to the fact that the book doesn’t follow the classic structure — just about the time you think Walt has gotten rid of the bad guy, he resurfaces... and resurfaces... and resurfaces. It gets laughable at the end that Walt has to meet this guy in battle so many times!
The one change most missed by the readers, Walt having at least Vic, or better yet Vic and Henry with him, would have solved both problems. Even if they had showed up halfway into the book, maybe with s little “off the books” help from the FBI ? it would have kept the book more lively, more interesting, and alleviated the “won’t this ever end” feeling I had when I neared the end.
There were also a lot more opportunities that the author could have taken to weave Virgil White Buffalo and other aspects of Indian mysticism into the book that would have kept the pace up (conversation) and revisited a continuing theme and struggle with Walt’s belief system.
Overall, as much as I hate to say it, within s few hours of the actual end of the book. I was bored.
