Historia
Scarlett DeHaven leaves Nashville behind for a new beginning in the Shenandoah Valley without memories of drug addiction and rehab. But after purchasing an abandoned house with a disturbing past in the hopes of transforming it into a luxury bed-and-breakfast, she experiences visions and voices. Strangers appear, bearing cryptic warnings. And a tunnel is discovered underneath the house - one that was historically used for a local cult’s rituals.

Good Story - BRING BACK HUNTER PLEASE!
Revisado: 09-25-22
Good story. I appreciated that it was a much more mature than most ghost/demon stories, meaning I didn't find myself rolling my eyes during the story.
The main charter has absolutely no redeeming qualities. (It was a relief to know that the author understood this when a friend's mother let her have it about 3/4 through the book.) And yet, because she is, sadly, like so many "real" people these days, it didn't take away from the story. On the other hand, Hunter, who plays a relatively small role in the story, is awesome.
London Clarke - please consider a series with Hunter as the main character (read by a male narrator).
Overall, good book and I would buy it again. Already listening to the next book in the series.

In the shadow of Mount Hood, 16-year-old Tennant is checking rabbit traps with her eight-year-old sister Sophie when the girls are suddenly overcome by a strange vibration rising out of the forest, building in intensity until it sounds like a deafening crescendo of screams. From out of nowhere, their father sweeps them up and drops them through a trapdoor into a storm cellar. But the sound only gets worse....

Martha, Martha, Martha!
Revisado: 08-10-22
I liked the story. It wasn't like my usual pick, but it was fun, a bit different, and I liked most of the male characters and the children. On the other hand, I hated the main female character, "Martha". First, a trivial matter, but in large sections of the book, almost every chapter was named "Martha". It might be okay for the written version, but it was very annoying when listening to the story. Second, Martha is a self-righteous ...<insert your choice of word here>... who "stomped" when she didn't get her own way (seriously .. "stomped" ). In a real situation, the military would have put her in prison at the beginning of the story for endangering lives and spouting classified information. But in this story, the military is weak when it comes to Martha and she does what she wants, running over seasoned warriors who are helpless against her righteous anger (yeah, I'm being sarcastic but it was pretty ridiculous). Despite being a scientist, she seems incapable of logical thinking and is in constant emotional overdrive (mostly angry). And yet you get the impression that Patterson intended for her to be a strong character who is to be at least respected if not liked. I neither respected nor liked her. I hope Patterson will try his hand at this genre again, but with better female characters.

Really Good - in a Strange Way!
Revisado: 07-07-21
I can see why this podcase would not be for everyone. I wouldn't call it exciting, I like a story that unfolds slowly and keeps me guessing without losing my interest. What was this house? What was up with this bizarre woman? What did all these (apparently intentional) inconsistencies in her story mean? The actors were perfect for their roles and the background effects added to the story without distracting as they so often do.

Historia
Every object has a ghost. There is a small yellow backpack - half unzipped, mouth yawning to the pavement, contents strewn around it (a banana, an exercise book, a pair of scissors) - abandoned on a suburban footpath. Ten feet away, the rubber stamp of tyres, resisting clamped brakes, mount the curb and cut across the path. The tracks come to an end at a crippled stop sign. The street, a tree-lined suburban road dappled in late-afternoon sunlight, is calm. But anyone walking past can feel the ghosts: the prickle on the back of their necks that tells them something happened here.

Series Should be Called "Becca is an Idiot"
Revisado: 06-10-21
I'm disappointed that in the 21st century any author, especially a woman, could have created a female character as stupid as Becca. Yes, I listened to 2 books thinking "it HAS to get better" (and because January LaVoy did a great job of narrating).
Book one was straight out of an old movie and I knew who was to blame for Jessica the first time the killer was introduced.
Just skip this series. I'll be returning it.

Main Character is not Likeable
Revisado: 05-10-21
Unlike most of Inmon's characters, Cassandra is not likeable. She was 70 when her first life ended, but she acts like a thoughtless and rather stupid teenager. Definitely not the brightest light on the tree. I'm about 5 hours into this one and giving it up. Hard pass. Narrator didn't help.

You Can't Fix Stupid
Revisado: 04-20-21
Nila Carter is the very definition of "You Can't Fix Stupid" as well as a candidate for worst mother of the year. The book was free, so I didn't bother reading reviews before I listened to it. I went to reviews half way through because I had to see if I was the only one who thought the main character was unbelievably stupid. Evidently, I have a lot of company.
The performance was pretty good, but if you have no tolerance for idiots, skip this one.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

The Despicable Reporter & the Whispering Narrator
Revisado: 01-23-21
So much to hate about this book. It was free and I still returned it.
* The main character is everything you despise about reporters. She injects herself into an investigation and knowingly and intentionally endangers the life of a teenage photographer, a child hostage, a police officer and ruins the career of someone she is supposed to care for only to get a story for a small town paper. I think the author is trying to excuse her behavior based on her difficult childhood. It doesn't work. She is a failure as a human being and I can't believe that there could actually be a second book based on this character.
* I have over a 1000 audio books, and this is the first that I would call misogynistic. The number of woman-hating men in this book got tiring. Every mother is abusive or at least uncaring.
* Finally, other reviewers have also noted the annoying way the narrator whispers everything.
Summary: Move on folks - nothing to see here.
