Historia
As far as Jolene is concerned, her interactions with her colleagues should start and end with her official duties as an admin for Supershops, Inc. Unfortunately, her irritating, incompetent coworkers don’t seem to understand the importance of boundaries. Her secret to survival? She vents her grievances in petty email postscripts, then changes the text color to white so no one can see. That is until one of her secret messages is exposed. Her punishment: sensitivity training (led by the suspiciously friendly HR guy, Cliff) and rigorous email restrictions.

Y/A novel?
Revisado: 07-10-24
This book surprised me - I didn’t believe in the main characters, the central romance, the setup (spoiler alert- 15 years after high school the main character still hates herself for being semi-present when her friend dies improbably by a wrong step in the woods -??). I think you’d have to be high school age or younger to find any of it relatable.

Historia
In Bloomsbury, London, Inspector Brook of Scotland Yard looks down at a dismal scene. The victim of a ruthless murder lies burnt beyond recognition, his possessions and papers destroyed by fire. But there is one strange, yet promising, lead - a lead which suggests the involvement of a skier. Meanwhile, piercing sunshine beams down on the sparkling snow of the Austrian Alps, where a merry group of holidaymakers are heading towards Lech am Arlberg.

Disappointing
Revisado: 04-13-24
The narrator’s silly falsetto voices for women and generally forced delivery. The story doesn’t seem to be particularly well written either.

Historia
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Painful narration, why so slow?
Revisado: 03-17-24
I'm baffled by the new set of recordings of Terry Pratchett's novels. I really enjoy the actor Bill Nighy in other contexts, and the young man who is the main narrator for this edition has a great voice - but for some reason he's been guided to read this book at sleep walking speed and hyper-careful articulation, as if he's using it to teach the language to non-english speakers. I found it unbearable. It strips the book of virtually all of pratchett's humor. I wish they had just remastered the Nigel Planer- or Stephen Briggs-narrated versions.

Historia
Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.

First Liane Moriarty book I lost interest in
Revisado: 01-21-24
I loved the other three Moriarty books I read, and Caroline Lee's narration is among the best I've ever enjoyed in an audiobook. This plot however was just too tortuous, detailed and drawn out, with that Hollywood feeling of 'not another plot twist.' I'll gladly give the next Moriarty book a spin - but I couldn't finish this one, and I rarely fail to finish books, audio or otherwise.

Historia
Dreams of stardom had lured Martyn Tarne from faraway New Zealand to make the dreary, soul-destroying round of West End agents and managers in search of work. The Vulcan Theatre had been her last forlorn hope, and now, driven by sheer necessity, she was glad to accept the humble job of dresser to its leading lady. And then came the eagerly awaited opening night.

Historia
If it’s navel-gazing you’re after, you’ve come to the wrong place; ditto treacly self-examination. Rather, his observations turn outward: a fight between two men on a bus, a fight between two men on the street, pedestrians being whacked over the head or gathering to watch as a man considers leaping to his death. There’s a dirty joke shared at a book signing, then a dirtier one told at a dinner party - lots of jokes here. Plenty of laughs.

Love visiting David’s world
Revisado: 11-19-23
So grateful that this writer and humorist found his calling so the rest of us could view the world from his particular humanist, curious, slightly twisted and literary perspective. I love visiting David’s world. Makes me feel like there’s hope for the rest of us.

Not impressed
Revisado: 09-17-23
The existence of anomalies and wishful musings is not proof of a whole universe of alternative directions human development may or may not have gone. Would I like to believe we've got options other than the one we are living? You bet. Does this book make a respectable case backed with actual evidence (rather than just hopeful maunderings) that we started down other paths repeatedly, and could potentially return to one of these paths at any time? Nope - no, it does not.
