Historia
April 2011: On a remote mountaintop overlooking the remains of the Iranian nuclear weapons program, Azad Ashani witnesses a Quds Force demonstration of a capability meant to upend America’s war in the Middle East. Ashani, director of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security and Irene Kennedy’s former back channel to the Iranian government, recognizes the demonstration’s true significance, and the nation-ending conflict it will provoke. Alone, Ashani stands no chance of preventing this rush to madness.

I love the “flashback-ish-ness” (pretty sure I may have made something up there) of the new book.

An authors note would have been a bit helpful in regards to the “Previously on Mitch Rapp” nature of this story.

The first Joe Hill book I read was NOS4A2. So, my mom turned me onto Stephen King when I was in the fourth grade, yeah I know, but it was my mom and it’s Stephen King. What are you gonna do… I’m assuming the book was recommended because of my propensity towards Stephen King. However, I had no idea that “Joe Hill“ was related to Stephen King when I picked up NOS4A2 and The Fireman. In short, Joe Hill is an excellent writer. He develops his characters in the most deliciously consumable of ways! This run of short stories is just fantastic! Thank you Sir! I look forward to reading more!

He overheard the story by chance in a pub and it’s guaranteed to go viral - all he needs to do is persuade the World’s Unluckiest Man to talk to him. His best friend Larry’s quest for killer clickbait material has led him to a recently appeared shanty town in Glasgow, where he finds some kind of urban voodoo cult. Ex-cop Sam has already come face-to-face with the terrifying force behind both these phenomena, but he’s been trying to put it out of his mind.

Revisado: 06-27-21
As usual Luke Smitherd presents a great story! I am personally a huge fan of his ability to draw the reader/listener into the beauty and so often the horror of real human emotion. His character development is captivating especially as he places them in the most unusual of situations! I do agree with his view on the over use of social media and I appreciate the way he presents it.

The first person view point was such a change that I found it difficult to get past. Court is such an intense character that being allowed into his “inner self” was a bit of a gear grinding experience. However, I believe that most people (even novel characters) are maybe a touch more than presented as being. I’m looking forward to see where the story will lead next.

Pink Floyd+Prince of Tides+LSD=?
Revisado: 07-16-17
Audible sent out a "promo" featuring this book as one of several books to try. So, even with the bad reviews I gave it a shot, and with the help of microbrews and "herbal" assistants I made it through... kinda.
It's bad. I have a lot of very wide ranging books. It's just bad.
I love Pink Floyd, I loved the Prince of Tides, I have never tried LSD but I can only imagine that this book is what you would get if you brought them all together.

From the author of the international best seller The Stone Man, short-listed for Audible UK's Book of the Year Award 2015. Here are the rules. Method: you can't use a gun. You can't use explosives. You can't use poison. It has to be up close and personal. You don't have to worry about leaving evidence; that will be taken care of. Victim: no one suicidal. No one over the age of 65. No one with a terminal illness. Choose your method. Choose your victim.

Terrifyingly Hysterical!
Revisado: 10-15-16
What made the experience of listening to How to Be a Vigilante: A Diary the most enjoyable?
How to be a Vigilante is a terrifyingly hysterical ride! As always Luke Smitherd paints an amazing portrait of modern society using his possibly unconventional view on life and an amazing ability to capture all of it in ridiculously realistic dialogue! I have read all of his books so far and I can't wait for his next one!
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character, because we've all known someone who was totally like that!!!
What about Luke Smitherd’s performance did you like?
I can't imagine anyone else else bringing that character to life. It will be a bittersweet day when Luke Smitherd reaches the level of success that he is no longer allowed to read his own books.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES! And I did listen to it all in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
Luke Smitherd will be the next Stephen King!

Historia
The afterlife doesn't come with a manual. In fact, Hart and Bowler (two ordinary but dead men) have had to work out the rules of their new existence for themselves. It's that fact (along with being unable to leave the boundaries of their city center, unable to communicate with the other lost souls, unable to rest in case The Beast catches up with them) that makes getting out of their situation a priority. But Hart and Bowler don't know why they're there in the first place; if they ever want to leave, they will have to find all the answers to be able to understand the physics of the dead.

Another great book!
Revisado: 03-08-16
I was warned before I started this book that it had a bit of a slower start than those of Smitherd's other books, but "stick with it". It was true. It doesn't explode in your face right off but rather offers you a proverbial "drink" as you settle in for a great ride. As always, Smitherd's ability to develop a realistic life for his characters is simply amazing.
It's the little details that make his characters become alive!
