Historia
Now hailed as an American classic, Tropic of Cancer, Henry Miller's masterpiece, was banned as obscene in this country for 27 years after its first publication in Paris in 1943. Only a historic court ruling that changed American censorship standards, ushering in a new era of freedom and frankness in modern literature, permitted the publication of this first volume of Miller's famed mixture of memoir and fiction.

Landmark in literature— not for everyone
Revisado: 06-24-20
I’m not the right audience for this book. It’s well-written, meaning the prose is outstanding and remarkable. But the narrative is a bit hard to follow, the characters are hard to get a grip on, and it’s... well I understand the prose is the point. I didn’t love it. I didn’t love the performance either. Sounds like he’s whispering the whole time kind of and they have a bunch of music stings that are in strange places in the text— mid paragraph for example.

Stunning performance.

A landmark in literature and a heartbreakingly passionate performance by Samira Wiley. Outstanding in every way, this is an audio book for all audio books to be judged against.

Historia
The attraction of opera is in its scale, in the fact that it is larger than real life in actions and emotions, more magnificent in sound and in sight. And in the world of opera, no figure in our time loomed larger than the late Luciano Pavarotti. Especially in his triumphant collaborations with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, he captured the imagination of an audience breadth and depth is remarkable even in the grand context of classical opera.

I don’t know all of the details, but I used this audio book with the first edition of this book and there are entire chapters missing as well as sentences. It’s about 1/2 the material in the book.
I got. Know how to check, but it would be worthwhile to make sure your edition matches the audible version if you are doing. A read along.
Otherwise, the material is fine. Kind of a typical autobiography that spend a lot of time explaining and justifying. Lots of interesting stuff. Lots of boring stuff. And not much detail or introspection. But worth reading for any fan of Pavarotti.
