Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

walks up to the line and crosses it

Usually these types of books give you a history lesson but no real demands or asks or advocacy. She actually said she supports reparations and thinks it is a must.

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

Historia
In his new book The Black Tax: The Cost of Being Black in America, Shawn Rochester shows how "The Black Tax" (which is the financial cost of conscious and unconscious anti-black discrimination), creates a massive financial burden on Black American households that dramatically reduces their ability to leave a substantial legacy for future generations. Mr. Rochester lays out an extraordinarily compelling case which documents the enormous financial cost of current and past anti-black discrimination on African American households.

Good Book

Great book. It really clarifies what racism is. it's an economic system that drives wealth and power towards and away from particular groups. you can't fix racism without a proactive effort to undo what was done.

Historia
From Minneapolis to Louisville, to Portland, Kenosha, and Washington, DC, America’s reckoning with its unmet promises on race and class is at a boiling point not seen since the 1960s. While conversations around pathways to progress take place on social media and cable TV, history tells us that meaningful change only comes with radical legislation and boots-on-the-ground activism. Here, Mallory shares her unique personal experience building coalitions, speaking truth to power, and winning over hearts and minds in the struggle for shared prosperity and safety.

Pretty dissapointed
Revisado: 09-29-21
When I saw how we win in the title I figured I would give it a go. I just love to hear new, insightful, and bold ideas for the black community to try to begin competing in America. There really is not anything in here to point to. Everything is surface and vague. In summation the how we win is organize, rally, and vote. I read a book recently that suggested black people moving into 1 or 2 states and taking it over. That was refreshing and radical and different. Regardless of it would work its something. The demands are vague. Justice and equality. Besides the biographical piece there wasn't anything here. Just because you say something loud doesn't make it radical.
