The issue with this book is the character consistency. The female lead especially seems to flip with her stance in this book just to set up an arc that wasn’t even a thing in the first book. And the MC’s power should be a feature for all players with a charisma score. I don’t even know how the third book is gonna do anything plot wise now

I still like this person but we have a new reader so it loses some of that luster that sold the first two volumes. Hope this was just scheduling issues and not the company being cheaper.

A good romance moving slightly too fast for its own good

The couple here is cute and I was expecting mostly banter and maybe some world building with any serious stuff being near the end since it’s so short. Unfortunately because this isn’t an action book they had to quickly make a sex scene instead to keep interest. And I wasn’t a fan personally. But it did actually play into the characters so if you like that sort of thing you’ll enjoy this far more than I did

I’m surprised how well this keeps up the pace

Usually I only get this far in series because the books are half as long as these. Not only has this kept the pace it does so without making me wanna break. Don’t let up.

Great little book

Jim is not as good as James with this but these are his characters and he brings all the energy and that goofiness needed in shorts like this. A fantastic listen.

Not too interesting

I was originally looking forward to this and the set up works well enough but it loses steam really fast and most of the book is setting up lore and shit for future books rather than build a romance or a self contained story like the last books. As soon as Tayra became a POV character again just to explain how the government reacts to magic I had to bow out cause they didn’t set up why I should care anymore personally. Still acted well but it’s a let down so if I bother with another book it would only be if the premise were that good or if somehow I found out doing so with get the writer to finish TAP

No real arc

I was invested in the story and would like to continue. But I feel it need to be an omnibus because with no action ending and no real reason for the book to cut off when it does it just feels like they hit a page count and moved on instead of telling say all of her childhood or going from not wanting to be involved to being engaged or something.

While the character grows and changes it isn’t any sort of arc for anyone, even the story of how the parents met is just randomly in the middle instead of a cap off to this.

Recommended but only if you are willing to invest in multiple books and since I didn’t read book 2 yet I can’t even say how much further this had to go. But it’s entertaining as it runs

A disappointment

I was expecting a lot more from this built up villain from basically the start but at least the last 2 books before this. Instead it’s just a solution they already used used again to speed up the ending to not come up with a cleaver way to defeat the man without a fight and only do so when in self defense. Other than that the story and performances were as good as usual

Well executed but

I could feel the choices made in this story by the writer. Needed an actual villain, time to bring one in. Needed to make him a creditable threat, time to kill known characters the reader may like, but it can’t be anyone in the harem that would hurt the main characters as much or more than the actual deaths, better to use the minor male characters so as to give a chance this all ends with both characters having a harem and happy instead of actual trauma that logically would happen in war and this story when done elsewhere.

Such a disappointment I hope that since I already have the next book before I started this one that it recovers my lost faith in this story
