As an Asimov/sci-fi fan, I loved the story…I would have preferred a more versatile narrator. By the way, has anyone found a narration of Robots and Empire?

Raised as an orphan by her aunt, Chariline has only been told a few pieces of her parents’ tragic love story. Her beautiful dark skin is proof that her father was Cushite, but she knows nothing else. While visiting her grandfather before his retirement as the Roman official in the queen’s court, Chariline overhears that her father is still alive, and discovering his identity becomes her obsession. Both her grandfather and the queen have reasons for keeping this secret, however, and forbid her quest. So Chariline sneaks on the ship of a merchant trusted by friends.

Narration
Revisado: 12-26-22
I love Tessa Afshar’s books. The narration of male voices is excellent; however, the narration of female voices is so disappointing…even irritating. I admire and respect this art and trust that the narrator will reserve this high pitched voice for children’s books.

Potty mouth kills the story.
Revisado: 09-15-22
I know that everyone isn’t uncomfortable with profanity, but I love Star Trek. It was such a great culture. Something the whole family could enjoy…something that told stories in entertaining ways. Are we really at a point where a story can’t be told with effective, vivid language. Is the “f-bomb” the limit of expression now?

Coda Series
Revisado: 12-04-21
I’m addicted to Star Trek. Following the threads of all the character stories in different timelines was a journey. Just as with the alternate universe episodes, I had a hard time sticking with the book, particularly Book 3. I found the violence a bit too prolonged and intense; however, the tension kept me committed to learning each character’s fate. I didn’t think I was enjoying the ending, but at the very last received a welcome surprise.

It is 997 CE, the end of the Dark Ages. England is facing attacks from the Welsh in the west and the Vikings in the east. Those in power bend justice according to their will, regardless of ordinary people and often in conflict with the king. Without a clear rule of law, chaos reigns. In these turbulent times, three characters find their lives intertwined.

Wonderful Story
Revisado: 11-02-20
Ken Follett is one of my favorite historians and authors; however, I guess he wanted today's readers to feel comfortable at home by weaving in the "F" word throughout the book. It dropped in...like someone wanted to send off a dirty bomb just to keep us interested in the story. The story was wonderful in itself. Ken's the expert, however, so maybe that's how people talked back then, and maybe that's what keeps people interest now? I guess I'll never adjust.

Revisado: 09-15-20
This could have been a good episode, but...T’Pring resurrecting Stonn’s consciousness to place into Spock’s body? I know this is fiction, but I guess I’m getting too old for these books.

Amazing Insight to Human Nature
Revisado: 04-17-20
This was my first Connie Willis book. I was looking for great historic fiction, and I found it! This book written over 25 years ago could have been written by a current journalist. The events and human behavior were so descriptive of today. I'm looking forward to another read. Jenny Sterlin's narration was captivating. I'm looking for more of her performances as well.
