Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

not sure.
Revisado: 09-03-24
I did not like the reader. I actively avoid books read by Scott Brick. His style is over dramatic, or maybe melodramatic. Otherwise, the book dragged on and on. I did finally quit reading before it was over.

Historia
In this moving sequel to Big Rock Candy Mountain, Bruce Mason returns to Salt Lake City, not for his aunt's funeral but to encounter after 45 years the place he fled in bitterness. A successful statesman and diplomat, Mason had buried his awkward and lonely childhood and sealed himself off from the thrills and torments of adolescence to become a figure who commanded international respect.

This book is well written and had I not read Big Rock Candy Mountain, I would like it better. Too much of it is repetitive..

Big waste of time. Rather like a bad comic book.

I am not sure why I stayed with this to the end. The story is full of holes. Don't bother.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-02-22
How could all those listeners think this is a great read?
It was sad that two educated people could spend so much of their lives trying to figure out if they could trust each other. Both are ready to bail at the next disappointment. Murdering the other was a possibility for both of them.
Neither had parents to show them how to love or be loved. In the end, I stopped listening about an hour before it ended.

I could not begin to do it justice.
This book is written in a circle of Afgan history portraying the lives of individuals and families.
It is very well written and read. I really struggled to put it down.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Live Now
Revisado: 03-04-21
This book hit me in a lot of tender places but also reaffirmed a lesson I learned a long time ago --that you cannot appreciate the joy of life without digging in. Sometimes I thought the author was missing an important rule that in receiving the rewards of any life, you have to do the work to get there. However, I think the author makes that point implicitly over and over again. What good would come of being recognized as a world-famous neurosurgeon unless you have done the work to reach that level of respect? I could not enjoy the fruits of achievement without first doing the studying, practicing, and refining the skill. To enjoy being amongst colleges at an international conference on neurosurgery, I would have to be prepared enough to answer tough questions and demonstrate superior skill and knowledge in that field. I also think the book brought me back to what a good life I have and the only way to be happy is to dig into my life and live in it each day.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 10-17-20
I admire Tana French so much that I bought this book the instant I saw it. Sadly, this book was a big disappointment. It dragged for 20+ chapters till it got interesting.
It is not a terrible book but not great and not what I have learned to anticipate from this author.

Historia
Dismissed by a bored author at a book signing, a betrayed young man named David Sedaris made a vow. Someday, when it was his turn at the table, he’d connect with his readers. The experience has been even more revealing than he’d hoped. In this hilarious and perceptive essay, the celebrated humorist reflects on the unusual patterns of forced socialization between author and audience, and the obligations and sometimes surprising returns of not-so-chance encounters with strangers: jokes, secrets, insights, and even charity.

Just way too long!
Revisado: 10-19-19
At first I loved it because the auther is an excellent writer. Then, after so many hours of drearyness I tired of the savagery of the bad guys and the long suffering of the victims.
The book should have been about half as long.
