Steamy, but sweet romance
Revisado: 04-27-22
Buck's Landing is a short romance featuring Sofia and Silas. Sofia has come back home to Buck's Landing to fix and sell her father's business. The place holds a lot of sad memories for her and she is anxious to move on. Silas is the new business owner next door who will do what ever it takes to keep Sofia in his life.
I did ultimately enjoy this one. This is definitely a steamy romance. The two had good chemistry and I did like how their relationship progressed over the summer. Sofia was a little frustrating though. She was not completely upfront with Silas. I felt like she lead him on a little. I did find myself rooting for her though. Silas was just a gem of a guy and was someone any girl would want to be with.
The audio production was really good. My only complaint was that the narrator used a very New Jersey sounding voice for one of the characters who was born and raised in New Hampshire. The two accents aren't even close. But that is just a nitpicky thing on my part. I do recommend this romance, especially in the audio version.

Another enjoyable mystery with a magical twist
Revisado: 12-06-21
Burglary at Barnard is the second book in the Oxford Key series. This one takes place a couple of months after the first book. This time around, Nat is at Barnard College to set up an event. While Nat and the other prefects are investigating the theft of a candlestick, they find a secret chamber in the archives along with another dead body.
I enjoyed this installment. The murder mystery was fun to solve. We get to learn a little bit more about the magic at Oxford. I wish it was a lot more, but I suspect this will be drawn out over the subsequent books in the series. The characters from the first book are back in this one as well as a new and surprising addition. I love Nat's group of friends. There is also a nice revelation about one of the characters...I won't tell who. I also love the romance that is blossoming between Nat and Edward. It's seriously really sweet. I definitely recommend this one.

Enjoyable cozy mystery with a magical twist
Revisado: 12-06-21
Murder at St. Margaret is the first in a cozy mystery series that has a sprinkle of magic. Natalie is the newest event planner at St. Margaret's College. It is a part of the larger Oxford University system. She soon discovers that her adopted cat is really a tiny Wyvern and that she has comes from a line of magic keepers.
I thought this was a fun mystery. I liked the magical world that Natalie fond herself thrust into. I also loved that she was one of three newcomers who are tasked with keeping the magic at Oxford. Kate and Mathilde round out the trio. I loved that they were learning together. The other characters were fun and added a lot of color to the story. H was adorable. The mystery was OK. The solution kind of fell in Nat's lap, but I did enjoy following her as she tried to solve it. There is a larger question of why the magic is leaking out of the Oxford. There were no answers here, so I'm assuming that mystery continues over the series.
I listened to the audiobook and I would recommend it in this format. I enjoyed the voiced the narrator used. H's was cute and I could totally picture a little wyvern speaking like that. I do recommend this one. I look forward to the next book.

Revisado: 05-27-21
The Ninth Session is a psychological thriller that follows psychologist Alicia as she digs into the psyche of new patient Lucas. He is struggling with crippling anxiety. As the sessions progress, Alicia begins to sense that she may be in danger. I thought this was an enjoyable thriller. While it was a bit predictable, I still had fun being in Alicia's head as she pieced things together. I also liked the exploration of ethics within the world of therapy. I'm not sure how I would handle the situation that Alicia found herself in, but it's something to ponder. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the experience.

Donn's Hill was a pleasant surprise. I ended up really enjoy the book. It involves Mackenzie who moves to Donn's HIll looking for a fresh start after the death of her father. There she finds a strange group of friends, an unusual job and a mystery she needs to solve before ti's too late.
As I said, I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I enjoyed all of the characters, especially Mackenzie. She is a character I definitely want to read more about. I also loved the mix of mystery and supernatural. It was a nice blend and well balanced. I was kept guessing until the end. I Can't wait to listen to the next book, Donn's Shadow!

Fun horror
Revisado: 06-29-19
In Trail of Blood, Sam Logan and his partner Carter Mason take a job to find a missing boy and discover that the town has been taken over by vampires. It's a good thing they are happen to be vampire hunters as well as private investigators. I thought this was a fairly enjoyable vampire horror novel. It had a lot of action and fun characters. Sam and Carter are characters I would want to read about in another book. The only thing that I didn't enjoy about the book was I felt like the story was part of a series. I felt like I was missing something. I would have liked to know more about The Network and that wasn't explored enough for me. Still, the overall story was a way to spend an afternoon.
The audio production of the book was excellent. I also really enjoyed the narrator's voices. If you are looking to a fun vampire horror I recommend checking this one out.

Great spooky read!
Revisado: 05-24-19
In The Haunting of Hillwood, Callie, an unlikely medium, is asked by Mrs. Turner to investigate a ghost on her farm. The ghost has some violent tendencies and once Callie shows up, the ghost seems to set its sights on her. Finally, I have found a book with some great spooky scenes in it. This was a lot of fun to listen to. It's a quick audiobook, so I won't give away any of the plot. I will say that there was one scene that had me on the edge of my seat and kind of freaked me out. This book would actually, if done right, make for a great horror movie. There is also a nice romance added into the mix. I enjoyed the characters and the twist in the end. The audiobook was done very well. I enjoyed the narrator's voices and the way she was able to draw me into the story. I definitely recommend giving this one a try!

Great new series!
Revisado: 09-03-18
I really enjoyed this author's last MC series, so I was looking forward to starting a new one. Zach is the first in the Hell's Handlers series. This is Zach and Toni's story. Toni has come back to her hometown to handle her parents' affairs after their tragic accident. She has no reason to stay, but she also has nothing to go back to. Maybe the Enforcer for the Hell's Handlers can change her mind.
I felt like this one was a bit grittier than the books in the other series. It made for a lot more atmosphere. Toni's secret past was pretty horrific. Zach's reaction when he found out was perfect. The secondary characters were interesting and I came to care about all of them. These are characters I want to know more about and I look forward to their stories.
The narrators did an excellent job on the audiobook. I like they duel narration. It made it more interesting to listen to. I definitely recommend this one especially on audio. I can't wait to read the next book!

Revisado: 04-20-18
Would you consider the audio edition of Driving Whiskey Wild to be better than the print version?
Driving Whiskey Wild is the third book in The Whiskey Family series. I read the first book, Tru Blue and really enjoyed it. I somehow skipped the second book, Truly Madly Whiskey so I'll have to remedy that. At any rate, this held up well as a stand alone. I didn't feel lost having missed the second book. Characters from both books do show up here and it was nice to catch up with them. This is Brandon (Bullet) and Finlay's story. The best part about this book was Bullet. I loved his character. It's always fun to read about a big alpha male with a heart of gold who also has a soft spot for kids and his dog. He has made it onto my book boyfriend list. Finlay, however, I had a harder time warming up to her. I didn't doubt she had a big heart and cared deeply for Bullet. However, it really grated on me every time she questioned his motorcycle club and its rules. That bothered me. If you are going to be involved with someone from a club like that, then you have to take it all on. They won't change just because you think they are archaic. I also didn't get how she grew up in the town and didn't know much about the club. They seemed to be a fairly prominent part of the town, so I was puzzled by her complete lack of knowledge of the good they do and how it all works. I enjoyed listening to the audible version of the book. The narrator did a great job!Anyway, this did end up being a sweet romance that I ultimately enjoyed. I do look forward to reading Bones's and Dixie's stories in the future.

Great horror story
Revisado: 02-17-18
Would you consider the audio edition of First Contact to be better than the print version?
First Contact is the first book in a series abut a realtor who tries to prove that houses are haunted for certain buyers. She uses this cover to explore and try to make contact with her dead fiance. On the final day, she ends up in a house that has more than just the ghost she is looking for.The premise of this series sounded unique and I was happy I gave the audio book a try. While the mystery aspect of the book wasn't too hard to figure out, I though the horror elements more than made up for figuring out the whodunit early on. The book is genuinely creepy and confirmed my reluctance to go into dark basements. The main character, Sloane was interesting and I wanted to know more about her. She seems like a character that would be able to carry a series. I won't tell any plot points as it would ruin the book. My only complaint was the random sex scene that showed up in the middle of the book. It was weird and seemed out of place. I think the book could have benefited from it being left out. The narrator did a great job of reading the book. Listening to it added to the creep factor. I definitely recommend it for ghost story fans.
