Complicated end to the first half

I do enjoy Brandon Sanderson and did in the end enjoy this book. It is so complicated and had to regularly look back to make sure I understood what was going on. A little heavy handed sometimes on the message.

Great character development

I kept reading and reading this book set in the early 1900s.. The characters had excellent development. A few twists and turns kept me guessing. Highly recommend.

Strange book, always having sex

The book is cryptic and hard to follow it first. They don’t come right out and say why these kids are different. You have to figure it out. By the time they are older teens, they are taught about sex. The author mentions having sex over and over again. Nothing very graphic, but keeps saying they had sex, they had sex, so they had sex. It’s distracting. I don’t need to know every time they have a drink of water or every time they have sex.

A look inside from a former insider

Becky was once the 19th wife of Rulon Jeffs, the prophet of the FLDS church. You can tell she still loves the people of the FLDS church. They are family and fellow church members. She has bravely testified against Warren Jeffs and others who participated in under age marriages and abuse. This book gives a look inside the FLDS church, polygamy, and the things they are taught.

Dated and a little boring

Even though I like CS Lewis, I don’t like this book. It is an old and fanciful description of what life on Mars might be like.

Life for blacks in the 1950s

The story is told from the perspective of a half lot boy who grew up in the Seattle area. He had rarely experienced racism growing up. He spends the summer in Alabama with his aunt and uncle where he experiences racism. Luckily he makes a wonderful friend in Juniper Jones. I really like the story and the character development. We get a good view of what life was like in 1955. While there is racism, some racial slurs, and death, there is no sex and very little swearing.

Hard to understand and boring

I listen to all my audio books at a higher speed. Someone thing with his English accent made this one particularly hard to listen to at a higher speed. It was hard to follow along and understand.

Great space exploration story

I was happily pleased with this book. I liked the Martian and expected the same amount of swearing, but instead there were a lot of fun jokes about not swearing. I loved how innovative he is at solving the various problems and the many scientific explanations, always blamed on him being a junior high science teacher. One reference to sex but no sex and nothing explicit. Lots of funny gags and jokes. Good character development. I really enjoyed it.
