Historia
Among the most memorialized women in American history, Sacajewea served as interpreter and guide for Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery. In this visionary novel, acclaimed Indigenous author Debra Magpie Earling brings this mythologized figure vividly to life, casting unsparing light on the men who brutalized her and recentering Sacajewea as the arbiter of her own history.

Subversive Fever Dream
Revisado: 04-17-25
Though I read this bold, experimental novel when it first came out, this audio version is illuminating, hypnotic, and powerful. Mandy Smoker Broaddus brings her poet's voice and cadences to Earling's visionary tone poem, giving the narrative clarity and dimension. An absolutely mesmerizing immersion in radical Indigenous imagination. The world seems unready for this level of genius. Maybe someday it will be recognized.

The Noble Hustle is Pulitzer finalist Colson Whitehead’s hilarious memoir of his search for meaning at high stakes poker tables, which the author describes as “Eat, Pray, Love for depressed shut-ins.”

The Anhedonian Manifesto
Revisado: 08-25-21
I knew virtually nothing about the world of poker before this listen, but I sure do now. As a huge admirer of Whitehead's writing, I am working my way backwards from his more recent books. I enjoyed his dark humor and self-effacing wit along with the lyrical, technical lingo of professional card sharks and Whitehead's scathing cultural observations.
