Lauren Bacall's story is a tale of the regular lives of stars of the stage & screen. she said it best, no one gets to skate through life. despite the hardships and loss, she remains thankful for the many blessings she has me upbeat about life.

what happened to the ending

so they wrote a book first person style with two many characters. their individual stories come together in the end to comprise a bigger plot. but it forgot to end. there were too many characters to keep track of them all. for the key characters the book ends before we know what happens to them.
sorry I read this.

A Heartbreaking, Heartwarming story of Love

This will be an all-time favorite, largely because of the amazing craftsmanship of the writing. An odd character made me think differently about people who seem "odd". it made me think differently about lonliness. There are revelations, surprises along the way, right until the end. and there is this amazing love story at the ❤️ of it all.

Alaska Continues to Fascinate

The characters are vivid. Alaska is both Harsh and a great community. This story weaves people and place together nicely.
Predictable at times. The author worked to ensure people are not shown as all good or all bad.

Wonderfully descriptive

I enjoyed her story. she is clearly well-read and exposed to a wide range if experiences, which leads to this well-written descriptive story. great imagery, strong and quality word choice throughout. at times I feel she's talking as someone who has been over- analyzed. overall the story and he characters were interesting.

lots of smart people are bad gamblers

Transparency and accountability should be Paramount in corporate governance, government, and personal relationships. that is certainly reinforced in this book.
investigative journalism matters. And people are so anxious to "hit the lottery" they will deny facts eight in front of them.

a lotta words, very little plot

I kept waiting for this to get better. it didn't happen. it was a lot of words for so little plot. for a while I was getting fed up with the foreshadowing of the foreshadowing which turned into a plot twist, which was no surprise. then the author wrapped it up in a tight little bow at the end. at that point, I still wasn't invested in the characters. it would have gone better if the author had written characters we could care about and given them a challenging and mysterious situation. but that wasn't it.
